Welcome to...How to find your best air travel discount

This "best air travel discount" lens aims to provide you with some great insider airfare secrets that will get you in the air for a lot less than you'd imagine.

For starters...

Did you know that that best air travel discount can be had by booking in advance?

The reason airlines offer you the best air travel discount if you book in advance is because they're trying to encourage people to book as soon as they can. They don't like the idea of having an overflow of customers trying to book flights at the last minute.

You see, airlines also like to know in advance how much space will be  needed on the flight for baggage and likewise, the amount of food they'll have to transport.

If you book in advance, the airline will have time to calculate this cost instead of having to scramble and do everything at the last minute.

Please read on as I share with you more best air travel discount tips

Best Air Travel Discount Tip #2

Save Money By Flying At Off Times

Did you know that most people who fly on a business trip will begin their flight some time between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.?

However if you're taking a leisure trip and want to save a few extra dollars consider booking your flight at a typically inconvenient time for most people. In other words, any time that doesn't fall between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Best Air Travel Discount Tip #3

Stay Over The Weekend

Did you know that people who are traveling for the purpose of a business will usually not stay over for a weekend?

You see, most business travelers travel on a weekday. (Please note: Monday are the most popular day for business travel so where possible, don't travel on a Monday.)

If you're traveling for leisure or even business and can manage it, stay over for a weekend Saturday and Sunday night and you can really save a lot.

Don't believe me? Just call up one of your favorite airline and ask for a comparison between a week day and weekend flight.

The bottom line is it's best to avoid flying on a Monday or Friday. If you do need or wish to fly during the work week consider Tuesdays and Wednesdays which are typically the cheapest days to fly.

Best Travel Discount Tip #4

Avoid Holiday Air Travel

Did you know that traveling during peak holiday time is like asking for trouble?

The time of year you make your airline reservation is also crucial. For instance if you reserve a flight a day or two before a major holiday like Christmas, chances are good you're going to be paying top dollar.

Once Christmas has come and gone however, airlines generally lower their airfares. As a result, you can often get a discount ticket if you book your flight right after a major holiday. So plan to visit your family in early December or late December instead of traveling at an inflated Christmas airfare.

Best Air Travel Discount Tip #5

Check For Reduced Rates

Did you know that tickets sometimes get discounted even after you've purchased them?

If you happen to discover that the ticket you purchased for your flight has been reduced since the day you purchased it, all you need to do is contact the airline and discuss the situation.

In most cases, you'll be refunded the difference with no problems.

I even got lucky once when I found that my purchased ticket had been considerably reduced. When I called the airline I was also offered free travel vouchers toward future ticket purchases. I think it was the airlines way of thanking me for booking in advance and being a loyal customer. I thought I would get a hassle for asking for a price adjustment on my ticket but boy was I pleasantly surprised!

If your cheapest airfare is with Northwest Airlines, then you can even save additional $50. Northwest Airlines have e-Cert voucher that take $50 off of a round trip ticket of $100 or more. There is no restriction. It can also be used for international travel. You can get it at sell.com for $10. Therefore, your saving would be $40.
