A leather basketball is the most expensive kind of basketball because it is 100% leather. You need to break-in a leather basketball and you will find it becomes softer overtime with use. Because it is all leather it is recommended that you only use a leather basketball when playing indoors and not outdoors.
An ideal basketball for using outdoors is a rubber basketball because it is very durable. Also for beginner players a rubber basketball is a good type of basketball to start with.
