The Best Of Agatha Christie

Ranked #3,349 in Entertainment, #41,311 overall

Enter The World Of First-Class Mystery!

What it says: the best works and adaptations of Agatha Christie! Books, movies, audio books, and video games.

I Love Dame Agatha

Agatha Christie has been numero uno since my early teens. There are several "golden age" authors I enjoy, but Dame Agatha holds pride of place.

Her writing is clear and straightforward. So straightforward, she leads you up the garden path every time. Some people say "Oh, it's the least likely suspect". In Agatha's works, almost anyone can be that "least likely suspect".

If you haven't discovered Agatha Christie yet, now is the time. I've put together the best collection of her works, adaptations, and material on both her and her creations.

Sit in the comfy chair with your favorite munchies, and return to a period of quiet country villages, grand country homes....and murder.

Christie Quote

Agatha ChristieDespite writing about death and killing in many ways, usual and unusual, Dame Agatha was actually unmoved by it all. In McCalls magazine, 1969, she said: "Murder has no emotional connotation for me." Perhaps that's why she was so good at it!

More Up Her Sleeve

After the first bunch, it was harder to choose. Much harder! Dame Agatha put out a lot of quality work, and deciding on the remaining five took a lot of thought. I finally managed it, though. You won't go wrong with any of these.

Dame Agatha Adds Life To Fiction

Agatha ChristieIn "Death In The Clouds", Jean Dupont tells Jane Grey about an English couple in Syria. The wife fell seriously ill, but both agreed that her husband should go on and report to his job, leaving her behind.
This actually happened to Dame Agatha. She was the one who became sick, and it was her husband, Max Mallowan, who went on to the archeological dig alone. The native doctor was outraged!

The Second Five On Audio Books

Yep, you can get these as audio books if you prefer. Dame Agatha is everywhere!

Dame Agatha was adept with short stories, too. These should keep you entertained and guessing for awhile.

Agatha Christie Out-Of-Print

It's a strange thing, but some of the best books about Dame Agatha are no longer in print. As I come across listings for these works on Ebay, they will be listed here for your convenience.

Remember always check out the seller's feedback, as well as the item description, before bidding.

The Bedside Bathtub and Armchair Guide To Agatha Christie

A very good reference to her mystery works. Covers all her novels and short stories (no spoilers). Interesting tidbits about English life and customs, too.

Agatha Christie's Autobiography

A must-read for any Christie fan. A fascinating look at her late-Victorion upbringing, along with the rest of her life up through 1965.

Agatha Christie by Gillian Gill

Absolutely the best book about Agatha Chrstie. Gill analyzes in particular the Mary Westmacott books, and gives what is the best understanding of the complex woman Dame Agatha was. WARNING! Contains spoilers for some of Christie's best works. Only if you're familiar with her books (especially many in the top ten) should you read this one.

Why Read When You Can BE?

Be the detective, that is. Three of Christie's novels have been adapted as adventure games: And Then There Were None, Murder On The Orient Express, and Evil Under The Sun.

Don't worry if you've read the books (or even if you haven't). The designers changed some things around, and the guilty party you may expect is likely to be quite innocent.

They also added in some puzzles/clues/etc. that aren't in the original novels. So playing the games will be a new experience. And if you haven't read any of them yet, the original books won't be spoiled for you.

I haven't played any of them myself. I'm just, well, too much of a purist, and like things as they are. But don't let that stop you. It's not every day you get the chance to enter Christie's world of mystery!

And Then There Were None

Happily, your character is not one of the invitees. That doesn't mean you're complete safe, though! REMINDER: The Wii version is pre-order right now.

Murder On The Orient Express

Yes, now you, too, can travel by luxury train and become entangled with murder. In this one, Poirot is on board, but only to give you help if you need it.

Evil Under The Sun

Wow! Now you play the part of the inimitable Hercule Poirot. Are you as smart as he is? There's only one way to find out...

The Mousetrap

The longest-running play in the world - coming up on 55 years! - The Mousetrap began as a 30-minute radio play written by Christie especially for Queen Mary's birthday.

Later Dame Agatha expanded it into a full-length stage play, and it opened at the Ambassador Theater in 1952. The Mousetrap moved to its current home, St. Martin's Theater, in 1974.

The play has become a big tourist attraction, and if you're going to visit London, by all means see it.

Thanks for much for creating this lens! I love all of Agatha Christie's works, especially Poirot. I was wondering, have you played any of the Poirot games on the PC? If so, does it matter if you have read the books? Because I have read all three and so know who the murderers are, and so I'm wondering whether the experience would be somewhat spoiled by this.

Wow, this was a wonderful selection of her books. I loved how you mentioned the computer games, I own all of them and I especially love the And Then There Were None and Murder on the Orient Express. Great job on choosing the best of an author who has so many good ones, it would be hard for me to choose :)

In your "movies" section, I would also have included DEATH ON THE NILE. I've never seen any of the film adaptations of AND THEN THERE WERE NONE -- I'll have to check out the one you listed here.
