Choosing the right blades for your clipper

I always clip my standard poodle really short so I use a 9.5mm on his body and a 1.5mm on his face and feet. It keeps things really simple and people always compliment his look. On average it costs about $75 to get your standard poodle groomed which adds up to $900 each year. That's why I decided to start doing it myself and it gets easier every time.

How I Learned to Groom my Dog at Home

Its crazy how much money you can save each year if you groom your dog at home. The lowest price I can find for a good clip is about $65 and thats not even with the tip. The problem is, a lot of people have trouble grooming their dogs at home and give up before they get good at it and learn all the shortcuts.

Personally I learned the hard way over the course of about 3 years. Now that I know what to do in order to make the job as painless as possible. When it comes to grooming my standard poodle, I don't even think twice about grooming him at home. Honestly I've gotten so good at it that I can get the job done in less than an hour and thirty minutes.

If you want to spare yourself the long learning process that I had to go through and learn the secrets right from the start, you can download the Secrets To Easy Dog Grooming and be a pro right from the beginning. Use these Supplies to Clean your Poodle's Ears

You must pull the hair from your poodle's ears with each grooming

Just like the hair on the rest of the poodle's body, the hair in the poodle's ear also grows out of control. To maintain healthy ears the owner must pluck the hair manually and clean the ear afterward.

Step 1. Shave as much hair out of the poodle's ear as possible

Step 2. Pour some ear powder in the poodle's ear

Step 3. Use forceps or a hemostat to pluck out small clumps of hair at a time

Step 4. Clean the ear with cleaning solution
