The Diaper Every Parent Should Have (If They Are Going to Use Cloth Anyway)
This is not an article extolling the virtues of cloth diapering. Much on that has already been written. Either you are going to cloth diaper or you aren't, and you will or won't for your own reasons. However, if you are, then maybe nobody has ever told you about these amazing diaper creations.
After using flat cotton cloth diapers for three children, I was ready to try something else for my newest little one. I also planned to do infant potty training (elimination communication) with my fourth, as I had with my third. Which reminds me--if you are going to be home with your baby anyway, why not at least find out about infant potty training? It is so much fun and by the time they attain control and can pull their pants down (way before 2 years), they will be all done with what I consider my least favorite part of parenting little children.
Okay, I diverge. So anyway, I was just plain tired of the flat diapers that I had to hold on with hand-me-down velcro wraps. And then a friend of mine told me that she was getting rid of her cloth diapers and wanted to know if I would be interested in trying them. She told me that she bought them after one of her friends did an all-out research project on which diaper was the best. This dedicated mom actually went online and purchased one of every kind of diaper she could find and tried them all. The diapers that my friend had were purchased on this woman's advice. They were in excellent condition, so I bought them. They are awesome!
First of all, they are terry cloth, which makes sense to me--towels absorb a lot of water and they are made of terry cloth. It isn't that rough kind of terry cloth, either, like the kind I have seen on some of the all-in-ones. It is soft, fluffy terry cloth with tiny loops. Then there are the snaps. Not metal snaps that rust or burn you when you take them out of the dryer. They are plastic and extremely durable. They are adjustable, so as your baby grows, the diaper grows with her. And last, there is a little bit of elasticity in the waistband--perfect for infant potty training, letting you pull the diaper down just like underpants.
Okay, so I don't sell these diapers, but I sure wish I had come up with the idea! They are, drum roll please..... Mother-ease. You can look at them at http://www.mother-ease.com/ but you may be able to find them for less somewhere else. Who knows--you may get lucky--a friend may sell you some second-hand. Sorry, I have already passed mine along to my sister.
