The Best Dog Food Even Costs Less Per Serving! - Concentrated, pure nutrition without fillers, just fresh, filling, tasty, healt

Best Dog Food From A Dog's Perspective

Here are some things I want people to understand about dog eating habits and healthy dog food to promote the wellness and vitality of their pets.

Unquestionably, the best dog food is healthy dog food that is properly balanced with only natural nutritious fresh, ingredients.  Yes, dogs are omnivores ... But as with dogs in the wild, the best dog food's prime ingredient is a human-grade, meat-source protein - not grains like corn or wheat gluten (a filler), or the awful animal by-products used in many commercial dog foods.

People tend to overlook the fact that dogs in the wild eat the whole carcass, bones, stomach and all ... So they consume critical vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and other nutrients and co-factors in the process. Therefore, nutritional supplementation (in the right forms and balance) is vital for healthy, balanced raw dog food diets and home made dog food recipes.  These are outlined in Best Dog Health Care - But don't expect to find them in commercial dog foods - even most premium dog food - except for a very few, select, all human-grade natural dog foods like

Just witness the recent rash of pet illnesses and pet deaths to which the Pet Food Recall testifies.

Don't let that happen to your pet! Become informed. Read the list of pet food ingredients and their sources.

Do You Feed Your Dog the Best Dog Food Ingredients or Junk?

The 3 Most Dangerous Chemicals to AVOID in Your Dog Food

Here are 3 things you MUST avoid in your cat and dog food - and in YOUR Food! - These are on the LABELS.

Some very dangerous chemical preservatives are common in our Breakfast Cereals and in most Premium Dog Food. Make sure it's not in what you feed your dog or cat - or yourself!

Andrew Jones, DVM tells us the top three preservatives that you MUST avoid in your dog food:

1. Ethoxyquin - Has been observed to cause auto-immune response in some pets, and promoted kidney, stomach, bladder, and colon cancer.

2. BHA - Causes squamous-cell carcinomas in rats and hamsters, as well as enhanced stomach and urinary bladder carcinogenesis.

3. BHT - Promotes urinary bladder cancer, and suspected to increase thyroid cancer.

Deadly Duo Found in the Pet Food Recall Products

Answers found at University of California, Davis - Study Identifies Deadly Chemical Duo In Contaminated Pet Food- reported November 13, 2007.

What's the "deadly duo?" Two structurally similar chemicals previously considered to be relatively nontoxic individually - melamine and cyanuric acid - but deadly when combined. And BOTH were found in the cat and dog food recall in March 2007.

In the study, cats who consumed foods with just one of these chemicals were apparently unaffected. But those who ingested pet food containing both had severe kidney problems within just 12 hours and kidney failure!

Why these chemicals in pet food? Probably an underhanded move to increase the reported nitrogen content. And what's cyanuric acid? It is commonly used to slow the breakdown of chlorine in swimming pools and hot tubs. It doesn't belong in pet food!

You won't find either or these chemicals - nor any other non-nutritive and non-healthful ingredients - in our recommended wellness dog food!

Pet Food Recall - Act Swiftly When Illness Strikes

Chico was dangerously ill before switching to Flint River Ranch Dog Food

Chico, a sweet brindle Pit Bull pup, was the winner of the dog photo contest for PawPersuasion - 2006 Best Holiday Dog. A shelter dog, Chico was lovingly adopted by Marukah from Biscuits and Bath on the Upper East Side in Manhattan.

Chico's life was seriously threatened by contaminated dog food in March. His doctor said fast thinking by his Mommy probably saved his life, as she immediately ceased feeding that food (before the Pet Food Recall press releases) and rushed him to the vet.

Now they have switched to Flint River Ranch Natural Dog Food, and Chico is running around, being his cute self, and thriving!

I agree with hal1000. Thanks for the cost comparison of wellness dog food with regular dog food. I found it doesn't have to cost more, because your dog eats less. It's more nutrient rich, like our eating a really good, natural brown rice that's twice as filling as white rice and far more loaded with nutrients. I think too many pet owners miss this. I enjoyed this lens. Good content. 5*

Nice lens! Good to see someone is focussing on whether or not natural food costs more than conventional feed - it's not a foregone conclusion so thanks for highlighting that for us all. Natural dog food does not have to be expensive so why don't more owners choose it? Let's hope a few more read your lens!

Some of the Veterinarian recommended dog foods have Ethoxyquin in them. Even if you can afford the best, one can improve on the brand. I use Purina's Pro Plan or One Lamb & Rice because they raise the lamb without hormones and anti-biotics and they have no preservatives in them. I don't even like to use a dogfood with rosemary extract as a preservative because it can cause kidney failure. Rosemary has cytotoxic compounds in it.

Great lens. Although I live in the UK (where we have not been affected by the recall), I have always thought the pet food companies had something to hide - most are owned by big name producers who just want somewhere to get rid of byproducts from their other concerns. Any readers from the UK or the EU (Europe) looking for alternative dog foods should check out Arden Grange and Burns Pet Nutrition

Good information! I used Flint River Ranch for a couple of years...very happy with them; however, wanted to buy dry, canned and raw in same place and finally found a local specialty store that carried all.
