So glad to see you've put Greyhounds on your list of good dogs for families with kids. Of course, like any dog, they do need to be trained and given time to become comfortable with the fast movements and high squeaky noises that children tend to produce, and of course no dog should be expected to be tolerant of abusive treatment from a child - so that's where it's on the parents, versus the dog breed - but for sure, as you say, Greyhounds are remarkably gentle and adaptable dogs.

Your lens really look great! and after reading it, now, I know what kind of dog I want for my kids-a Shiba Inu! And I don't have to worry about anything 'coz I've also found a source on how to train and care for a Shiba Inu dog! I'm very grateful to have come across this lens of yours! 5 stars!

I grew up with a variety of dogs, from Mutts, Dachsunds, and Bull Dogs to Rottweilers and Bull Mastiffs. I found my Rott and Mastiff to be the most protective and my Dachsund to be the most affectionate. She did have a mean streak in her though, as far as other dogs were concerned, and she was definitely the boss of the group, even though she was the smallest in stature. Great lens.

A terrific and resourceful lens! I've not owned a dog for many years, but think your lens would be a must have for anyone considering a new dog. 5*****

This is such an important 5* lens! I am going to link to it from my lens about my two (one rescued) Dalmatians!

    1. When kids saw any of the 101 Dalmatian movies (which I loved) parents were nagged and rushed out to get one. That is why so many are in rescue! Including my Leo.

    2. I have friends who have the most beautiful totally black Chihuahua. It is the sweetest dog, until the two little boys start harassing it and it gets vicious, understandably so. They shouldn't have gotten it either, so your points on small dogs and kids are well made.

5*'s I wish there were more!

Another great lens, Rena. I'm old enough to have had quite a few dogs since childhood. I was born on a farm, so can vouch for Border Collies, but we also had three Jack Russells when I was in my teens who were all great with my younger siblings (aged 5 & 7) too - but they need to know who is boss otherwise they will try to dominate!

Some great advice for choosing the best dog breed. Very informative. Thanks very much. With so many family friendly dogs it's hard to choose a winner. However, the Terrier breed of dog is probably the best all round family pet. At least I think so. Keep up the great lens. Sincerely, John

My choice- Best Dog Breed for Child is Golden Retriever. My mellow boy let my baby crawl and pull up on him, and when he'd had enough, gently moved away. Great protection and great with elderly, too. In Home Health Care - Health Care Solutions

I am thoroughly impressed. For years we had a rat terrier/spaniel mix who was an absolute jewel. At least she was with people, anything else from gerbil to doberman were pests to be extinguished. She tolereated NO competition! So, no pure breeds for our fam, though I do like greyhounds.

You have a wealth of information here. My 8 year old son loves both of our dogs, we have a Border Collie and a Shih-tzu. Both were adopted by our family after their previous family didn't want them any more. Both have great friendly personalities, and are great with my son.
