Best Free Anti-Virus Product

Give me a break. That's like comparing dog crap to cat crap.

Best Free AntiVirus

I hope you're kidding

The best FREE AntiVirus?

Are you serious?

That's like asking - "What's the best Free Food I can get?"

You might find something to keep you alive, but you're not going to find something good unless you head up to Wendy's and pickup one of those juicy "Old Fashioned Hamburgers" and pay for it!

When you're out on the Internet typing your passwords into your browser, do you want something that's going to get you by? You might as well start posting in Forums all over the net - "Hey people.. I don't care if you get my SS#, My Credit Card info, my address, and whatever else you want. Just e-mail me."

Do you really want what you dig out of the proverbial digital dumpster when you start getting hammered with pop-ups and trojans because your kid spends time browsing around MySpace picking up every digital STD the net has to offer?

Look at comparison charts on these free anti-virus products. They miss more viruses than using a piece of plastic wrap as a condom. They're okay when it's all you can afford, but I guarantee you, you're going to spend more than the 50 bucks to buy a good anti-virus product to get your PC fixed at your local repair shop.

If you plan on commenting here about how you've been running AVG or some other crappy Free Anti-Virus product for X years and you've never gotten a virus.... Remove that crap from you're system and put a real Anti Virus product on your system. You'll be shocked to find out how many viruses you actually have on your system.

If you want solid protection from Viruses (I'll get into Spyware/Adware protection in another lense), I encourage you to check out Kaspersky Anti-Virus.

Check out the Independent (That's right, not their own study) Comparison Charts.

These guys put out 600+ updates per month. They miss hardly any viruses. They have the absolute fastest response time.

Why Kaspersky Is Better

Kaspersky Is The Best For A Reason

For all you folks still stuck on the Best Free Anti-Virus, you don't need to read this.

In my computer consulting business, I started noticing how sluggish the PC's coming onto my bench and the systems I was working on were getting. I thought at first that it was just that the systems were too slow to handle the new products. I started noticing that regarless of other products on these systems, if I removed Norton, or McAfee, I'd see tremendous increase in performance.

I know from years of experience and seeing so many peoples systems costing them loads of time and money to get fixed from virus destruction that you MUST have a Virus Protection Program on the system.

(Disclaimer: If you're one of the gurus who don't have to have an anti-virus on your system because you're too smart for the virus coders that have infiltrated many of the largest companies and US governments networks and have done massive destruction and cost billions of dollars per year, you don't need a good anti-virus product. Heck, right now as you're looking at this page, you know you're system is without viruses because you don't read e-mail with viruses, you don't visit ANY pages that have viruses embedded, and you're just damn good looking. You do not need to read further. Keep doing what you're doing. Please do BOOKMARK this page though so when some virus captures your identity and sends it to some thief in some foreign country (or even right here in the good ol USA) that specializes in identity theft, you can come back here to consider Kaspersky.)

I started out by testing NOD32 on my systems. One of my sytems FULLY PROTECTED by Norton showed to have 70+ viruses. I flipped out.. WOW!! Norton wasn't protecting me after all.

After about a year of NOD32, I started testing out Dr. Web. It was another great AV.

A few months of Dr. Web, and I finally decided to check out Kaspersky. This AV is incredible. It scans fairly quickly, doesn't bog down my system and they have a 2 hour response time to new threats!! WOW!!

They put out 600+ updates per month. It cleans really well without requiring additional "tools". This is a great AV. Check out this from their site:

Went to the site for free scan and wasted about 30 minutes only to find out that the Key was blocked. Apparantly not free anything there.Thought I'd see how good it really was, but don't like to be mislead like that so will not be buying anything. You will prolly delete this anyway so another waste of time for me.

i've been programing computers a the college for a while now and your are 100% correct but if you don't use your computer but for the casual searching and few downloads you can get away with using a free antivirus for a while but eventually it might come back to bite you in the ass like this gentelman here has said.
