What's the Right Hair Color That's Best for You?

If you've ever asked yourself "What color should I dye my hair" then you know that choosing a hair color can be very dependent on hair color trends. The best hair color for you can be determined by looking at a hair color chart. To get hair color ideas, try searching the net for celebrity hair styles and see what your favorite celebrities who have your same complexion shade are wearing.

There are some basics you must keep in mind. If you have yellow undertones then you should probably avoid gold types, and if you have pink undertones, then avoid pinkish shades. Black hair colors tend to work better on people with darker complexions, while blond hair colors are for the fair skinned. Mixing skin tones and hair colors could make you look very bizarre.

Sometimes, though, you may not want to just completely cover your head in a color, you made want to do highlighting to add more depth to your hair. If you have shorter hair, then you should probably consider coloring it a single color. Longer hair would allow you to highlight around your face, which could be very flattering.

After your hair is colored, the process doesn't stop there. Getting the right shampoo and conditioner to help your hair is almost as vital as the process to find the right hair color. Shampoos for color treated hair add small amounts of color to your hair to revitalize it, and this should be done on a weekly basis.

Hair Color Trends for 2008

A poor hair color choice can get you looks, but not the looks you want. Managing your hair color with what is trendy is a huge task and is done successfully by many people already.

Once again, to get real insight of what's going to be the "in" this autumn, you should be looking at celebrities. For women, there are three huge trends going on right now and for men (for the first time in ages) there is a color trend.

Tommy Hilfiger has featured dirty blondes in a lot of his runway collections and it seems they pair well with soft hairstyles that make you think of the 30s and the 40s in a big way. These strikingly feminine styles give the air of sophistication not seen lately.

Kate Moss has once again made headlines with her color, and if you remember she actually took world by storm with her fringe cut. But now, she's got a platinum blonde look that is just awesome and has a bob to go with the fringe. Even though you could probably wear it all year long, you should probably think of something different after summer goes out.

Dirty blonde isn't the only color that's coming in strong for fall of 2008 - we're also seeing a lot of auburns. Stay away from the intense red and get the more subdued auburn or even burgundy or maroon. You want something that is a nice blend of red and brown that would look natural on you. Auburn is definitely the color to go with during the trans-seasonal change between 2008 and 2009.

Finally, men are having a blonde fashion trend coming their way. The key here is to make it blonde, and not platinum blonde like for the women or even white. It has to be that nice, golden yellowish blonde color so people will know it was deliberate.

Should I Dye My Own Hair or Let a Professional Do It?

Coloring your hair can be a fun and rewarding experience, and if you're not comfortable with doing it then you should certainly seek a professional. But, if you like to experiment with your hair and even if maybe you're on a budget or maybe you can't be around when your hair stylist is around, then coloring it yourself is a great idea. There are several advantages to doing it yourself or having a professional do it.

Coloring your hair can be challenging if you've never done it. If your hair is particularly thick and long then you're going to need lots of extra dye or even extra time. Considering this is probably also inconvenient to a stylist, he or she is probably going to charge a premium for "out of the ordinary" hair.

If you choose the wrong color then you're probably going to end up looking downright silly, but this can usually be avoided by making sure you do your research before you take a dye bottle to your hair. Of course, if you leave it up to a professional you're going to get the best consultation because a professional would want to keep you happy and as a client.

Going to a professional can obviously take the work away from you and you can relax while it's going on and socialize. You're not really doing anything while it's happening so it'll give you a good chance to catch up on some reading or even tracking down that new fashion trend.
