Quality questions and answers on Lost

The best Lost theories, questions and answers to Lost mysteries, backgrounds, insights and other really fantastic points of view from fans of the popular ABC TV show. There are numerous theories on Lost. Some of them are great, only a few really outstanding. You can find the latter here.

The Lost producers have made clear from the beginning of the show that everything could be explained by realistic pseudo science. So only 'realistic' theories can be found here.

I have added some fascinating links to this lens e.g. the Timelooptheory, the EYE M SICK blog, Jeff Jensen's ramblings on Lost and the SD Wynn theories. I will add more really great stuff when I stumble upon it.

I would love to hear your thoughts about Lost and about your opinion on the best theories in particular. What do you think is going on in Lost? Which theory is the best one out there? Actually I dare you, do you claim to know a better theory?

"I'm not sure there is any ending that will satisfy everyone, our hope is that the ending will be... the logical conclusion of the story." Carlton Cuse

Lost Season 5 Episode Guide

Epguides

This is the time for rewatching Lost episodes. I myself am rewatching from the start, i.e. season 1. Some of us only want to watch season 5 again. In any case the Lost episode guide comes in handy for keeping an overview. The episode guide I always use is Epguides. A clear guide with direct links to episode summaries.

How will Lost end?

What answers and new questions will the last season bring us?

The sixth and last Lost season lays ahead of us before the grand finale in 2010. Many of us are wondering how Lost will end. Lost season 6 'Destiny Found' will air from February-May 2010.

For those of us who are not so patient and can't wait until the end of the show there are few places on the Internet which provide absolute quality theories, insights, points of view, and answers to Lost questions. Of course no one can say for sure his or her answer is exactly what the Lost writers mean with the TV series. But I think that the websites and blogs I have listed in this Lens are pretty close to what Lost is all about. So to summarize; this Lens is about quality answers to Lost questions. Many of those theories, questions and answers are from such a high quality that they can be considered Lost spoilers.

Questions like: How will Lost end? How about the mythological references in the show? Who really are the bad guys? If it's not an island then what is it? And one of my personal favorites, is Ben a good or a bad guy?

the hatch painting

The end of Lost season 6 will be "a highly anticipated and shocking finale."

How Will LOST End?

This is not my own prediction but one that is all over the Internet. I would LOVE to hear your opinions on how LOST will end.

My prediction:

Beas, at 6am on April 14, 2009 predicts:

Lost ends how it started with Jack waking up in the woods

Reader predictions:

Doughtry Johannson, at 5pm on November 13, 2009 predicts:

A ship will come and rescue them, then the ship will sink and they'll all die. The end.

prime Time, at 8pm on November 5, 2009 predicts:

I predict that everything goes back to normal, everyone is back on the plane, desmond is on the island still typing in the code ;( and ben is back in charge of the others. but everyone on the plane will remember all their journeys and will get off the plane in Sanfransio.

Hani, at 3pm on October 18, 2009 predicts:

I predict LOST to end with the identies of 'Adam and Eve' being revealed. The battle will take place between good & evil and everyone will die but 2 characters (Jack and Kate). They slowly die in each others arms and are layed to rest. They ARE Adam and Eve!

Milbo, at 9am on August 26, 2009 predicts:

I hope it wont end like this ,but also on the lost game which was supposed to give clues the end resulted in it going right back to the beginning.

Beas, at 3am on May 22, 2009 predicts:

In Reply to James: I totally agree. It looks to me the first thing Jack does is checking if the bottle isn't broken. Also in the airplane when the turbulence starts Jack seems a little nervous, he really reacts different from the other people like he knows what's going to happen and is mentally preparing for it.

Good point about the counting to five story, hadn't thought about that.

mayapearl, at 1am on May 21, 2009 predicts:

It was all a dream, someone's long coma and none of it was real.

desertdarlene, at 7pm on May 19, 2009 predicts:

That the Losties will finally get things "right" and actually fix everything in the end. The plane will land in Los Angeles and they won't remember anything. That's what Jack was trying to do in this last season and I think they're going to keep trying until it happens. However, I hope that the show producers would do something a little less predictable.

Kel1i2005, at 7am on May 19, 2009 predicts:

Im not too sure exactly about how it will end but after watching series 5 really close ive picked up on something weird. when jacob says to lock you found your loop hole...at the very begining of that episode jacob in the past was sat on the beach talking to a man who said he wanted to kill him, jacobs reply was ...well when you find that loop hole...I think that man was jacks dad when he was younger, and the reason lock had to die and come back to the island wearing something that belonged to jacks dad was so jacks dad could poses locks body (hence the cabbin being empty). For some reason he cant kill jacob himself though which is why he had to get ben to do it. As for the bomb...i think its the bomb which has caused the problems with the electro magnetisium because the past cant be changed. i also think the show will end with the battle between the others and the darma...whats left of them anyway.

How will Lost season 6 end?

Matthew Fox talks about what he knows

Interview Video on Lost Review
"kinda interesting, especially Matthew´s last words!"

The Circle

original title of Lost TV show

The initial title of the TV show was 'The Circle'. It seems they have changed this not too long before the start of the show. The speculations of Lost ending with how it started, the loopholes, the self fulfilling prophecy theories (e.g. the one about the Losties creating the timeline in which they crash on the island instead of avoiding it by detonating the bomb) all correspond with the 'circle theme'. But what can we conclude from this?

Who are Adam and Eve?

The identity of Adam and Eve is the key to the end of Lost.

The producers have explicitly stated that the identity of Adame and Eve is central to the mystery of the island.

One of the predictions on how Lost will end is that Jack and Kate are Adame and Eve. (thanks for your input Hani) I think this is interesting. So I went to Lostpedia to read more about Adam and Eve theories. Of the many different ideas on who Adam en Eve might be I found this one the most plausible and interesting:

"Jack and Kate are the first people we see on the Island in the very first episode of the show. Jack first, and then Kate finds in the jungle and helps him with his injury, a cut on his ribs, all of which is a reference to the biblical Adam and Eve."

But then again, there are also good explanations for other theories. Every time you think to have figured out something you end up being wrong, which is emblematic for Lost and is one of the factors that makes this show that much intriguing.

For example, this post on The Lost Elders Blog has a short but interesting theory on Desmond and Penny being Adam and Eve.

Confirmed by the Lost producers

A few things we know for sure.

  • The numbers ( 4,8,15,16,23,42) are related to the Valenzetti Equation.
  • The four toed statue is a remnant of former inhabitants of the island.
  • The plain did not crash by accident, it crashed for a very specific reason (Damon Lindelof)

Best Lost Theories

Ultimate Lost theories and fascinating insights

The goal of this lens is to illuminate more than theories about time travel. Whether or not Lost is about time travel there are so much other questions and mysteries that are just as interesting. The show hasn't given us many clues about for example the four toed statue, the strange donkey wheel, the researchers on the north pole, what's up with Walt, how did the island disappear and much more. Reading attempts from Lost fans to answer those questions is even more appealing because of the fact that the show hasn't revealed much about these subjects. I can't emphasize it enough. The stuff these folks have come up with is really good. So be prepare to be spoilt or stop reading.

The SD Wynn theories.
One of the all time greatest theories actually consists of three separate blog posts. They each have their own angle. They are not about time travel but they are about many other fascinating elements of the show. Ok that's not completely true, one of them is a bit about traveling in time but that's a detail. Just to give you an idea; this guy has convinced me that Charlie isn't dead. Of course dead and alive are relative terms in Lost but I now know Charlie will get back. And I like that. I don't know about you but I could never understand why Charlie had to die. Charlie Rocks! Furthermore he also has some gripping ideas about the purpose of the Swan station and the Staff station. Curious? Then read on:
The Great Gedanken Experiment

Plato's Atlantis Rebuilt as the Osirian Clock ticks to Apocalypse

Lost in the Kabbalah: A passion play of Isis, Osiris & Horus

I haven't found any new theories of SD Wynn. I would love to read more from him but anyway these theories are fantastic.

The EYE M SICK blog
I have recently found this really mind blowing blog. The owner writes the most exciting things about Lost mysteries. Do you want to know how the Black Rock ended up on the island? Or what happens when the donkey wheel is turned? Want to know more about the test the young Locke has to take? Very diverse topics that are each fantastic. If you are a real Lost fan and are interested in quality insights and the all time best theories you have to read this blog. Seriously.

Lost and Time Travel

The Timelooptheory Revised

Lost's main theme is the time travel we all know this. There is this great theory, The Timelooptheory , about this subject which you probably know already. You can read the Timelooptheory here.
As far as I know this guy was one of the first to write about Lost and time travel. He has just revised his theory for season 5 so it's still entertaining. Check it out!

FrozenDonkeyWheel

There are many great theories on the ABC TV show Lost. It is amazing what some people come up with trying to explain the mysteries of the popular TV series. But like I said, there are a few that are really outstanding. Those people show knowledge of all sorts of disciplines like mythology, ancient cultures, quantum mechanics, history and psychology. They have written some very interesting theories about all kinds of Lost mysteries.

Jeff Jensen Solves LOST (or doesn't he?)

Jeff Jensen's theory is based on the following segments:

THE DHARMA INITIATIVE: Head Games
THE HATCH: Human Testing

Specific Lost questions

Who are the real bad guys?
"We are the good guys Michael" is what Benjamin Linus said in episode 23 of season 2. I have always had mixed feelings towards Ben's role in the show. No matter what he did I couldn't suppress the gut feeling that Ben still is a good guy. Especially after the fourth season. Ben's power is deteriorating and he is now also a victim. The producers have made us think there are much bigger enemy's. So who is the real enemy? Does it appear to be Ben after all? Is it Widmore? The Dharma Initiative or do we have to look in another direction? I have read a short but interesting theory about this subject.
The third party

What do you think the island is?

It is not an island, it's a place where miracles happen..

Interview with the Lost producers:

Damon Lindelof: If an Island is defined by land mass surrounded by water, they are on an Island.

Carlton Cuse: Right, that's good.

Damon Lindelof: Right.

Carlton Cuse: Yeah, I don't think we should say anything more than that.

Damon Lindelof: Yes, that's how....

Carlton Cuse: That's right.

Damon Lindelof: This is about definitive answers. We have defined the term Island; we've confirmed that we are, in fact, on one.

Carlton Cuse: And it's surrounded by water.

Damon Lindelof: It is.

Carlton Cuse: But everything beyond that is kind of up for grabs. (interview from Lostpedia)

When Jack says it is just an island Locke replies that it isn't an island but a place where miracles happen. I will add theories addressing this particular question soon. Some say the island actually is a spaceship. Others think it originally was a comet that hit the earth. Some are convinced it is an man made structure like an oil rig or something. What do you think the island is?
