Best Marketing Ideas of 2007

With 29,780 new products released in the first 11 months of last year, a 14% increase over the same period in 2005, per Mintel, Chicago, I can only anticipate more great print and broadcast advertising for 2007. This lens focuses on The Best Marketing Ideas of 2007. Please view the The Best Marketing Ideas of 2006 my other lens.

Amnesty International Switzerland

created by Walker Werbeagentur Zuerich

Amnesty International in Switzerland broke a new outdoor campaign that was created by Walker Werbeagentur Zuerich. The campaign uses the tagline "It's not happening here but it's happening now", in various languages, from French to German. Using the transparent billboards, the campaign aims to show people what is going on in the world, even if it's not happening in front of them at the bus stop. The ads portray issues in countries like Iraq, China, and Sudan.

Gobbledygook - Publikum Calendar

Paula Scher and her team have designed the 2007 edition of the Publikum Calendar, the celebrated art calendar published by the Publikum printing company based in Belgrade. (The calendar's history is recounted in an article in the current issue of STEP.) The theme of the new calendar is "Gobbledygook," and the design makes visual and phonetic comparisions between the Roman and Cyrillic alphabets.

Design by Paula Scher, Julia Hoffmann, Drew Freeman, Brian Crooks, Lenny Naar, Emma Goldsmith and Jennifer Rittner.

V-dubs (VW), Slash and Nigel get together

At this rate, there will be approximately 116 Volkswagen commercials floating around by next year if Crispin keeps up its current pace. In this next outing, Volkswagen has partnered with guitar maker First Act in a promotion called V-dubs rock to give everyone who purchases a particular model with a guitar that features a seat belt as the strap and a plug that lets you tap into the vehicle's audio system. To show it all in action, former Guns N Roses guitarist Slash - now with Velvet Revolver - rocks out. Not that everyone wants a guitar but it's still a nice promotion all the same.

Zombie Orville Redenbacher

CP+B is now GO+D

Kudos to the animation doctors behind this feat. I first thought it was a short from SNL or some odd YouTube submission. This is definetly the freakiest ad that I have seen to-date, but it makes the best of 2007 list, well because the amount of PR it received is just amazing. This macabre fascination seems to have worked. Even Redenbacher's grandson, Gary, is eating up the creepiness in his heartbreaking statement "I see it as a way to remember the man I love."
