The One Everyone Should Check Out
Favourite Metal Website???
Encyclopaedia Metallum - The Metal Archives
The Largest Metal Community

The Metal Archives are big. HUGE in fact. Just to give you an idea of scale, the site features an astonishing 62,000 bands and over 116,000 users of which the vast majority are considered active. Despite Heavy Metal being a relatively obscure genre, the Metal Archives are the fifth most popular music website on the net. With so many users, the site features plenty of reviews of the same album, giving you a diverse opinion that everyone is always looking for. As a bonus to advert conscious users, the Metal Archives are completely devoid of advertisements, which is a rarity in a site that receives such a high volume of traffic.
To briefly sum things up the Metal Archives are by far the largest online metal community. The databases contain enough information to be entertained for hours. If that wasn't good enough, the site also features an enormous forum. Definitely the top pick.

Blabbermouth
Your Source for Metal News

Blabbermouth is a Heavy Metal news portal and the largest, most well know of its kind. The site features around the clock metal news keeping metal fanatics updated with information regarding the latest concerts and festivals to the personal lives of musicians. The depth of the news can sometimes be shocking.
Sure if Blabbermouth was just a news portal that would be fine. However, it is not just a one trick pony. The site also features pretty decent albeit slightly biased album reviews. Now I must make a special mention of the greatest part of Blabbermouth. The trolls. Never have I seen a portal with such hateful users. This is not necessarily a bad thing since the comments users leave are absolutely hilarious as long as you don't take them too seriously. Definitely another top pick.

Metal R Us
Awesome Forum Community
Metal R Us or MRU for short is a relatively small yet tight knit forum community. The site contains over 100,000 posts and 500 members. Many members herald from the remnants of the infamous metalforums.com. In fact both sites have the same admin. Now back to the site. MRU features everything a good forum community needs: a thriving community, visually appealing layout and special features. From the arcade to the picture gallery, MRU is bristling with activities one can partake in. If you are looking for a forum to join, MRU is the top pick.

Metal Tabs
The Oracle for Musicians
Metal tabs is a site dedicated to providing tablatures for musicians aspiring to improve their skills and/or just to learn their favorite songs. The tablature archive is very extensive, unmatchable by any other tab archive. Every single tab on the site is published with explicit permission from bands and/or record companies. As an added bonus, one can request for someone to tab out a song, essentially guaranteeing that you don't leave empty handed.
More than just a tablature archive, Metal Tabs has a very helpful forum community. Members can give advice ranging from purchasing musical instruments to the components of musical theory. If you are a musician, Metal Tabs is your heaven.

Top 5 Metal Albums!
Essentials to Everyone's Collection
Slaughter of the Soul
This album is pure classic. Melodic, crunchy and brutal in it's own way. If you haven't listened or picked this up yet, you don't know what you are missing out on.
Jester Race/Black-Ash Inheritance
Arguably the most important release in melodic death metal, this album is an epic combination of melody, power and dark atmosphere.
Power of the Dragonflame
Soaring melodies and cheesy vocals. Almost to epic for its own good.
Twilight of the Thunder God
I can't get enough of this album. Heavy, melodic and perfect production. Every song is good. Just when I thought Amon Amarth couldn't out do themselves, they did.
Enthrone Darkness Triumphant
Black metal with good production and retains it atmosphere. This album is too good for its own good.

- More Judas Priest please. :-)
I like you lens, you should consider doing some individual lenses on your favorite bands or on the most influential ones to the metal genre. You could rock those with your knowledge base.
