The Metal Archives are big. HUGE in fact. Just to give you an idea of scale, the site features an astonishing 62,000 bands and over 116,000 users of which the vast majority are considered active. Despite Heavy Metal being a relatively obscure genre, the Metal Archives are the fifth most popular music website on the net. With so many users, the site features plenty of reviews of the same album, giving you a diverse opinion that everyone is always looking for. As a bonus to advert conscious users, the Metal Archives are completely devoid of advertisements, which is a rarity in a site that receives such a high volume of traffic.
To briefly sum things up the Metal Archives are by far the largest online metal community. The databases contain enough information to be entertained for hours. If that wasn't good enough, the site also features an enormous forum. Definitely the top pick.

Your Source for Metal News
Blabbermouth is a Heavy Metal news portal and the largest, most well know of its kind. The site features around the clock metal news keeping metal fanatics updated with information regarding the latest concerts and festivals to the personal lives of musicians. The depth of the news can sometimes be shocking.
Sure if Blabbermouth was just a news portal that would be fine. However, it is not just a one trick pony. The site also features pretty decent albeit slightly biased album reviews. Now I must make a special mention of the greatest part of Blabbermouth. The trolls. Never have I seen a portal with such hateful users. This is not necessarily a bad thing since the comments users leave are absolutely hilarious as long as you don't take them too seriously. Definitely another top pick.

Awesome Forum Community
Metal R Us or MRU for short is a relatively small yet tight knit forum community. The site contains over 100,000 posts and 500 members. Many members herald from the remnants of the infamous metalforums.com. In fact both sites have the same admin. Now back to the site.
