Keeping up with current affairs through the blogosphere
I'd like to give you an overview of where and how to stay up on current affairs and news by tapping into an unbelievably rich resource: blogs. Whether or not you've heard of this, I can almost guarantee that you will be amazed at what's out there and how useful it can be to you if you care about keeping up with current affairs.
Read on, and I will point you to some of the sources, and also show you how to discover more. Once you've discovered the best news blogs I will also help you figure out how best to keep up with the news via blogs.
How do I find the best news blogs?
Look at their web site, or look in a great library like BlogBridge's Topic Library
Depending on what you are interested in you can pretty easily find the blogs from any number of each of the big new publishers. For example, see the complete set of New York Times feeds and blogs. Pretty amazing isn't it? For the New York Times, as for essentially all major news publishers.
Oh wait, does your taste run more towards The New Republic? No problem, they have all their stuff in the form of feeds and blogs too: Check out The New Republic Blogs and Feeds.
My point? All the web sites and publications that you are familiar with most likely are already delivering it in blog and feed form.
And if you are looking for a really great desktop feed aggregator, you should have a look at BlogBridge. It actually is directly integrated with the libraries I am talking about. So all this great content is just one click away. Oh, and it's free, open source, and runs on Windows, Mac and Linux too! What's not to love? Give it a whirl...
So is there a master directory?
There are many ...
Poke around the BlogBridge Topic Library a little, you will find lots of interesting stuff.
While it would be really easy to find the blogs and feeds belonging to the New York Times, Fortune, or the Economist (to name a few) one of the fun things about the world of blogs is that there are so many more authoritative, interesting, and highly current blogs on just about any topic you might be interested in.
This is when a library like BlogBridge Topic Library really shines. Take a look at this set of wide ranging blogs and feeds about the US Political Scene.
Pretty amazing isn't it?
How do I find expert recommendations on news and current events blogs?
BlogBridge Topic Experts to the rescue
For example, check out the Green Planet Expert Topic Guide covering the latest news in the world of Green Technology and Eco Friendly business.
It's worth touring around all the categories in this particular library to see what else there might be of interest.
