Which is the best online high school?

I will make this easy on you: there is no best.

Well, there is no best if you are looking for one school that is the best out of all these amazing online high schools. That being said, there is a group of schools that are the best.

One important fact to realize is that what is best for one may be decidedly the wrong choice for another. There are too many variables in the mix for one to meet the needs of all potential online high school students.

Another important fact to realize is that these schools exist to serve you. Narrow your list of potential schools down to those that seem to work for you and then email or, better, call the school. Try to get a sense of what the school is like. Some schools when you call go straight into "hard sell" mode. Avoid them.

All this being said, just what exactly should you look for in an online high school?

How do you choose which is best?

How do you choose which is best for you? Sometimes it is as simple as choosing the school that you can afford. Yes, there are some free online high schools. Sometimes that is your best choice, but often there are equally good or better choices. So, if money alone is not the determiner, you should consider:

1. Does the school take your age range? Some schools take only teens. Some schools only take adults. And some schools take both. It is important to eliminate immediately schools that don't take your age range.

2. How much does it cost? Yes, of course cost comes into play. It just should not be the sole determiner in your selection process.

3. Is it accredited and/or approved? Typically, you want to choose a program with regional or national accreditation. That being said, a program that has been approved by a state department of education or by a public school district will likely suffice as well. For information on reputable accreditors, go here and here.

4. Is the school reasonably priced? In this case, you would be looking for schools that offer a high school diploma for only a couple hundred dollars. These are, by and large, fake schools. It's just not possible to offer a real education for anything approaching that price.

5. Does the website have contact information. Real contact information with names, street addresses, telephone numbers, and email addresses.

While there are certainly more criteria for choosing a best school for you, these will get you headed in the right direction.
