Residential Wind Turbines

So check this out. This is the farm house I bought, renovated, and fixed up with green power sources. I use combined solar and wind power, and use the residential wind turbines I made myself. The solar panels are a mixture of panels gifted from a friend and some that I made with the plans that came with the DIY Wind Turbine plans.

So this is where the farmer I met tests each of his new wind turbines. He builds them and then uses this spot to test their power output. It's a small corner of his farm that's practically desert, unlike the rest of the place. It gets the most wind so it's an ideal testing grounds.

When I first saw this I thought that this wind power tower was going to fall over. Then I realized what it was for and that it was supposed to be easy to take down and put up with new turbines.

I especially liked the upside down rubbermaid tote he used for a testing table :)

So this is an in-progress shot of my first wind turbine. It was actually really simple to do. I managed to do the whole thing in about an afternoon, with some prep work done the day before. When everything was said and done this little turbine could generate more electricity than two standard solar panels. And while your basic commercially built residential wind turbines will go for about $7,000 a pop, I built this for about $150.
