Ranked #5,857 in Movies & TV, #192,399 overall

I have started this lens to showcase what I believe to be the greatest sci-fi movies and tv shows ever made.

This lens is still under construction, so watch for changes as I slowly get it built. Have fun!

Close Encounters is one of my faves. I like the old sci-fi best of all... Doctor Who and Star Trek being my faves even though they aren't movies. I also like Lost in Space, though I thought the new movie was kind of dull and didn't meet the standards of the TV series.

Plus I totaly love X-files.

I think my fave sci-fi was The UnderSea Kingdom (I think it was made in 1935... it was one of the first sci-fi movies ever made... a true classic!)

Space: The Final Frontier

These are the movies that boldly went where no movie had gone before!

Science Fiction on Wikipedia

Science fiction is a genre of fiction. It differs from fantasy in that, within the context of the story, its imaginary elements are largely possible within scientifically-established or scientifically-postulated laws of nature (though some elements in a story might still be pure imaginative speculation). Exploring the consequences of such differences is the traditional purpose of science fiction, making it a "literature of ideas". Science fiction is largely based on writing rationally about alternative possibilities. The settings for science fiction are often contrary to known reality.

These may include:

*A setting in the future, in alternative timelines, or in a historical past that contradicts known facts of history or the archaeological record

*A setting in outer space, on other worlds, or involving aliensSterling, Bruce. "Science fiction" in Encyclopædia Britannica 2008 [http://www.britannica.com/oscar/print?articleId=66289&fullArticle=true&tocId=235716]

*Stories that involve technology or scientific principles that contradict known laws of nature

*Stories that involve discovery or application of new scientific principles, such as time travel or psionics, or new technology, such as nanotechnology, faster-than-light travel or robots, or of new and different political or social systems (e.g., a dystopia, or a situation where organized society has collapsed)

The Undersea Kingdom

The Undersea Kingdom on Wikipedia

Undersea Kingdom (1936) is a Republic Pictures film serial released in response to Universal's Flash Gordon. It was the second of the sixty-six serials made by Republic. In 1966 scenes from the serial was edited into a 100-minute television film titled Sharad of Atlantis.

Following a suspicious earthquake, and detecting a series of signals, Professor Norton leads an expedition, including Lt Crash Corrigan and Reporter Diana Compton, in his Rocket Submarine to the suspected location of Atlantis. Finding the lost continent they become embroiled in an Atlantean civil war between Sharad (with his White Robes) and the usurper Unga Khan (with his Black Robes) who wishes to conquer Atlantis and then destroy the upper world with Earthquakes generated by his Disintegrator. Thus he will rule the world unless he can be stopped in time.

The star of the serial is Ray "Crash" Corrigan, using that screen name for the first time. The name was created to sound similar to "Flash Gordon", in one of many similarities. Formerly a stunt man ? he was the person swinging on vines in Tarzan the Ape Man ? Corrigan went on to use this screenname for the rest of his career in serials and B-Westerns.

The first two chapters of the serial were mocked on the TV show Mystery Science Theater 3000.

Star Trek

Tiddledeewinks says:

I like the old version of Star Trek best! I can't remember the names of any of the episodes, except "The Trouble With Tribbles" and I did like that one.

EelKat says:

I have to say that I love Star Trek much more than Star Wars, they have so many more adventures, and a better story line; at least the original Star Trek series did.

I do not like any of the "new" Star Trek series' though, as they totally do not compare to the original. The new ones do not stick to the original story, the time lines, or anything else.

I don't think I really have a fave episode, I like them all. If I had to choose I'd say that my fave would be either "Shore Leave" or "The Devil in The Dark" or "The Trouble With Tribbles".

Star Wars

JoshuaC3000 says:

Wow this is easy... star wars to me has a much better story line

EelKat says:

Of course, even though I say Star Trek is better, I also must say that Star Wars was one of the greatest series ever made.

"Star Wars" (New Hope) was my fave, but than when the third one (episode III) came out, I think they now tie.

Star Wars

Star Wars on Wikipedia

Star Wars is an epic space opera franchise initially conceived by George Lucas. The first film in the franchise was originally released on May 25, 1977, by 20th Century Fox, and became a worldwide pop culture phenomenon, spawning two immediate sequels, released at three-year intervals. Sixteen years after the release of the trilogy's final film, the first in a new prequel trilogy of films was released, again released at three-year intervals, with the final film released on May 19, 2005.

As of 2008, the overall box office revenue generated by the six Star Wars films has totalled approximately $4.3 billion, making it the third-highest-grossing film series, behind only the James Bond and Harry Potter films.

The Star Wars film series has spawned other media including books, television series, video games, and comic books. These supplements to the film trilogies comprise the Star Wars Expanded Universe, and have resulted in significant development of the series' fictional universe. These media kept the franchise going in the interim between the film trilogies. In 2008, Category: Star Wars - : The Clone Wars (film)|Star Wars: The Clone Wars was released to theaters as the first ever worldwide theatrical Star Wars film outside of the main trilogies. It was the franchise's first animated film, and was intended as an introduction to the Expanded Universe Category: Star Wars - : The Clone Wars (2008 TV series)|series of the same name, a 3D CGI animated series based on a 2003 animated 2D series, Category: Star Wars - : Clone Wars (2003 TV series)|also of the same name.

X-Files

The X-Files is an American cult science fiction television series and a part of The X-Files franchise, created by screenwriter Chris Carter. It first aired in September 1993 and ended in May 2002. The show was a hit for the Fox network, and its characters and slogans (e.g., "The Truth Is Out There", "Trust No One", "I Want to Believe") became pop culture touchstones in the 1990s. Seen as a defining series of its era, The X-Files tapped into public mistrust of governments and large institutions, and embraced conspiracy theories and spirituality as it centered on efforts to uncover the existence of extraterrestrial life. The series spawned a spin-off show, The Lone Gunmen, and paved the way for the creation of Chris Carter's later show Millennium.

In the series, FBI agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) are the investigators of X-Files: marginalized, unsolved cases involving paranormal phenomena. Mulder is a believer in the existence of aliens and the paranormal, while Scully, a skeptic, is assigned to make scientific analyses on Mulder's discoveries. Early in the series both agents become pawns in a larger conflict (termed the "mythology" or "mytharc" by the producers), and come to trust only each other. They develop a close relationship, which begins as a platonic friendship, but develops into a romantic relationship by the end of the series' run. In addition to the long-term story arc, "monster of the week" episodes made up roughly two-thirds of the series. In such stand-alone X-Files episodes, Mulder and Scully investigated bizarre crimes with few long-term implications on the storyline.

The show's popularity peaked in the mid-to-late 1990s, leading to a 1998 film, called The X-Files. This was followed by a post-series film, Category: The X-Files: I Want to Believe - , in 2008. In the last two seasons, Gillian Anderson became the star as David Duchovny appeared intermittently, and new central characters were introduced: Bureau agents John Doggett (Robert Patrick) and Monica Reyes (Annabeth Gish). Mulder and Scully's boss, Assistant Director Walter Skinner (Mitch Pileggi), also became a central character. By its final airing, The X-Files had become the longest-running science fiction series in US broadcast television history, though it was later surpassed by Stargate SG-1.

Which sci-fi character are you?

If you could be a cast member on any science fiction show, who would it be and on which show? You can choose any character from any show or you can create your own "fan-fiction" character you think should be added to the show or you could really mix things up and take characters from one show and put them in the show you think they really belong in. Have fun!

I'd be a human character from...

EelKat says:

Xena... and be Xena

EelKat says:

X-files... I'd love to be Scully.

EelKat says:

Star Trek, original series, I'd like to be a "non-red shirt" who gets to go on the adventures on the planet surfaces.

I'd be a non-human character on...

EelKat says:

Can I call InuYasha sci-fi? Well, even if it isn't, I'm going to list it anyways... I'd create a new character of my own for this one, and cast myself as the Bride of Sesshomaru.

EelKat says:

Angel... I'd be Lorne, cause he's so funny, plus he gets to wear amazing suits, but in real life I'm a nerdy geek like Fred.

EelKat says:

Doctor Who... I'd want to be Tom Baker, cause he had the best adventures, even if he didn't get the best SFX.

oh, and also this lens isn't a regular Squidoo lens, it's a SquidVid lens; to make one you have to go here: http://www.squidoo.com/squidvids/hq; you just type in the name of a movie, tv show, actor, or topic (I used sci-fi for this one) and it automaticly sets up an instant lens, just like the SquidWho does; but just like SquidWho, SquidVid always sets it's payout to "charity" so if you want cash you have to change that option manually, as it does not come automaticly with any of the "instant lens makers" (there are 12 differant instant lense makers now, you can find a complete list of them and what they do here: What Can You Do With Squidoo? )

Click on "Add modules", than "A-Z Index",than "A"; the Amazon Spotlight module is on that page (and so is the Amazon Recommends module; I usualy use the 2 of them together).

You use the Spotlight Module the same as the regular Amazon module, but it only shows one item.

After you have saved the item, open the edit module again and copy the code number of the item, than save. Next edit the Amazon Recomends module, and paste the item code number from the Amazon Spotlight, into the blank space on Amazon Recomends and save. Amazon automatily creates a list of "if you like this you'll like these" items.
