What are the best sitcoms of all time?

Top 5 Sitcoms

30 short minutes, a laugh track, a simple story line. The situational comedy is a staple of television ... and something many of us cannot live without. Here are my top 5 sitcoms of all time, see if you agree.

1) SEINFELD

The Show About Nothing

Jerry Seinfeld himself wasn't that hilarious, but the other characters have become classic in the tv world. Kramer, George, and Newman are all my favorites and really rounded out the excellent cast.

2) Newsradio

Phil Hartman the genius

All right, I'm not sure how many people think this should be in the top 5 but this is definitely one of my all time favorites. The characters were great but it was really Phil Hartman who held the show together. After he died, it just wasn't the same. Nonetheless, the first few seasons were genius.

3) Will and Grace

Jack, Karen ... enough said

A person once told me, "I can't watch that show ... it's a little too much." I couldn't disagree more, though I can see that if you are uncomfortable with the sexual undertones (well, it's really pretty blatant), that it can make you pretty comfortable. I admit I was a Johnny-come-lately for this one, I just learned to watch it after the season ended. But when I stumbled upon it, I was immediately hooked. Karen and Jack probably carry the bulk of the humor if you ask me. I like that it is blatantly funny and did not try to have any deep meanings most of the time (it's a sitcom for goodness sake!). What can I say, I'm a fan!

4) Frasier

The smartest sitcom around

Frasier is probably one of the most intellectual sitcoms out there. It is funny but not like your typical sitcom. Intelligent humor but not pretentious.

5) Friends

The one with...

Compared to the other sitcoms I mention above, there are no strong character stand-outs in this show. Nonetheless, collectively, Rachel, Ross, Joey, Phoebe and Monica comprised a fun group of people to watch.

Single Again, and Embracing Playtime
