It just doesn't matter
Important!
This lens is for educational purposes only. I created it hoping that people who do these kinds of lenses will see that it's far better to help others by building lenses with substance rather than to waste their time (and ours) with lenses such as these. This type of lens is appreciated by the lens creator only.
The site, justsellingmystufftoyou.com, is made up. If such a site exists in reality, it has nothing to do with this lens.

Poll Question
About justsellingmystufftoyou.com
Have you checked the domain name I used here to see if it's being used or not? Please answer the poll question below. For the Record: I have not checked to see if it's in use; I STILL don't know if it exists! (Thank you to Rusty-Quill for this suggestion!)
Update on 'in use' question: I inadvertantly clicked on a link in an email someone sent; I quickly clicked out because I didn't want a tab opening, but I did see what the answer to the question is. :)
Let's Discuss
What's your opinion
Some people think this lens is telling them not to sell anything on Squidoo.
Is this lens "best practices" or "anti-sales"?
Fetching blurbs now... please stand byThis lens illustrates the wrong way to sell.
BarbRad says:
I'm afraid I see too many lenses that have too little original content and, in my opinion, too many selling modules. I'm afraid a lot of these are from Giant Squids. I really want to know why I should buy something. If I come in from Google to get information on a subject, I'm not interested in buying anything anyway, and if I see what appears at first glance to be a bunch of selling modules, I leave. OTOH, I've been to some lenses which have a lot of original content and the selling is so integrated you hardly even know it's there.

:) Good way to illustrate what not to do if you want to sell stuff. I mean, I try to sell stuff on my own Lenses and I haven't thought of a good way to disguise that yet but I do try to add some interesting content too.

Mostly I just think this is hilarious, but yes it does illustrate the wrong way to sell. Nothing wrong with selling, but everyone should see this lens before they attempt to make a sales lens... so they'll know what not to do. I've featured it on my mediocre lens awards page: http://www.squidoo.com/mediocrelensawards

This lens tells me that selling is bad.
Cherrybomb2009 says:
It might be nice perhaps to post a lens exactly the opposite of this one, as a way to let those who would like to sell things on Squidoo know how they SHOULD do it. Someone trying to sell stuff might come to this page thinking that they should delete their whole lens because no one wants to visit a lens where someone is selling something. However, this lens does give some good example about a few obvious things (like having empty modules, making sure any links you post are closely related, not posting in someone's guestbook simply to get them to visit your site, etc).

You're not saying selling is bad... just do it the correct way.

- Great lens! Makes a very good point about what not to do to have a successful lens. I've seen some lens that are all about the sale. What I look for in a lens is content and when I get to the selling modules I will be more interested in making a purchase from that lens. That's also how I want my own lens to be viewed as well. I also like the humor you have added into this lens.

- I'm no Squidoo expert, but one of the main reasons I prefer Squidoo to other such systems (the other is the charity donations) is that the lenses I've seen so far have generally NOT been purely badly written spam. But - judging by the comments on this lens - there must be plenty out there I haven't had the "pleasure" of reading..

Seriously
This lens may be exaggerated, but I get the same feeling from it that I get when I visit a lens created just to get people to visit the lensmaster's site or that is obviously created just to sell something from the convenient modules offered by Squidoo. Feels rather yucky, doesn't it?If you build indifference into your lenses, that is what your readers will give you in return -- indifference -- and maybe a few choice words about wasted time.

This lens, The Best Squidoo Lens NOT To Do, is a ME lens. To see a YOU lens, look at Teach Children Character. Notice that it's all about the reader. Notice that it still sells products -- after all, Squidoo is The Power of Recommendation. Either of these lens types is a personal choice you make when you get ready to build your own lenses.
