Tips for Using Squidoo Effectively

This lens provides tips for using Squidoo, and also answers some of the most common questions people have when starting out with Squidoo.

Voting, Linking, Signing the Guestbook

In addition to voting for a lens, you should also sign the Guestbook. That way the lensmaster will know you have visited and can check out and vote for your lens also. If you see a lens promoting a hot product, link to that

  2. Link to a Lens: When you find a lens you like, add it to your lensroll. That creates cross-traffic between the two lenses that benefits both. Adding a lens to your Lensroll is an easy process. First, in the lens you want add, locate the Lensroll link (Click HERE for picture), select your lens (Click HERE for picture), then click the Continue button (Click HERE for picture). A message appears to let you know the lens has been added (Click HERE for picture). The lens will now appear in your lensroll (Click HERE for picture).
  3. Link to a Specific Lens Module: Many people don't know about HTML bookmarks. A bookmark allows you to pinpoint a specific location on a page. Every Squidoo module has a bookmark reference, which means you can create a link to a specific module within a Squidoo lens. If you point to a module name in the What's Here section of the lens, you will see the module bookmark in the status bar (Click HERE for picture). Just include the bookmark reference in your link (Click HERE for picture).
  4. Add your Web Site or Store URL to a Links List: Some lenses, especially group lenses, have lists of links and invite members to add their own links. Here is how to do that: Click the button that says "Add to this list," enter your url into the box that opens, then click the "Done Adding" button (Click HERE for picture). When the next box opens, replace the url in the first box with a Title for your link, add comments or a description into the description box, then click the "Submit button" (Click HERE for picture). Finally, when the message appears confirming your link, refresh your browser window to see your link (Click HERE for picture).

Product Promotion Tips 

Display your products with style

The product modules (Amazon, eBay, etc.) allow you to feature up to 5 products. To display more than 5 products, just add another module. You can also use the Text/Write module to display products, and the RSS feed module.
  1. Using the Amazon module: The Amazon module is a good tool for recommending books and other products. If a visitor clicks on one of the Amazon products and makes a purchase, your lens will earn a commission. For information about adding an Amazon Module, click HERE.
  2. Using the eBay module: The eBay module can be used to add up to 5 eBay products. If you would like to add more than 5, just add another module. The steps for inserting an eBay module follow the same pattern as the Amazon module.
  3. Using the Text/Write module: Don't overlook the Text/Write module as a way to promote products. You can include a picture for each one and write as much as you like about the product. Provide a link to the product that includes your commission or affiliate code and you can earn money on the sale as well.

Create a List of Links in a Flash 

Copying a List of Links from your Internet Bookmarks or Favorites

If you have bookmarked or favorite links saved in your Internet browser, you can export them to a file. The links can then be copied from the file and pasted into a Text/Write module.

These instructions are for Internet Explorer, but most browsers have an export function to export bookmarked or favorite links.
  1. First, export the links. It works best if the links are in the same favorites folder. Select File > Import and Export. The Import/Export Wizard window appears (Click HERE for picture. Select Export Favorites (click HERE for picture), then click the Next button.
  2. Select the Folder that contains the links to be exported (click HERE for picture), then click the Next button. Specify the folder and file name for the export file (click HERE for picture), then click the Next button.
  3. Click the Finish button to export the file. Click HERE for picture.
  4. Open the file that was saved (click HERE for picture). Comments may be added after the link codes in the file (click HERE for picture). Select and copy the link codes and comments (click HERE for picture).
  5. Create a Text/Write module. If you need instructions, click HERE.
    Paste the copied text into the Text/Write module (click HERE for picture).
  6. The links and comments appear in the Text/Write module (click HERE for picture).
