What Defines a Food as Super?
These are foods that reputedly lower cholesterol, reduce the risk of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, hypertension and even make you feel better mentally and emotionally. And, with these natural foods there are little or no side effects.
Note there is no legal definition of the term Super Foods and some scientists and dieticians contend these foods contain little or no health benefits at all. They say it's just a strategy by the food sellers to market them as cure alls.
Foods cannot be marketed as such unless accompanied by a specific medical claim supported by credible and acceptable scientific research. We must also note that there are folders filled with testimonials from people who praise results they've gotten from a diet rich in super foods.
Super Foods are real unprocessed foods which contain high phytonutrient content along with antioxidants, vitamin C and fiber, among other qualities. Phytonutrients are chemical compounds derived from edible plants and fruits. Aspirin ultimately was derived from a phytonutrient.
There is a long list of super foods but those who extol these foods call for an overall healthy diet including a variety of super foods, exercise, proper rest and sleep. The combination of these factors is said to fight disease, maintain or lose weight and enjoy a longer healthier life. They're available daily at any super market.
