My Frustration With Learning To Play Guitar

A short story about how I almost quit trying to play guitar altogether...

You see...

I used to not be able to get my fingers to work right together when I tried to play guitar. My fingers would not go on the right strings and when I used the other hand to pick or strum the strings I would often hit the wrong ones. Needles to say, every thing I tried to play sounded like a train wreck. I was too embarrassed to even try to play in front of my friends.

The frustrations I had attempting to learn how to play guitar was causing me a lot of tension. I had no confidence to play in front of my friends, even when they came over and saw my guitar sitting there and asked me to play. I would just look at it, setting there in the corner collecting dust, and it drove me crazy. And yeah, you can say that playing guitar is something to do for "personal satisfaction" but who wants to buy a guitar just to have it set in a corner?? No one!

Please don't fall into the same trap I did...

Taking Lessons to Learn Guitar

Are taking guitar lessons really the best option to learn how to play well? Read below to find out...

Not making any assumptions here, but I am pretty sure that you have probably taken at least one guitar lesson sometime in your quest to learn and master the guitar, as I have taken too many to count :/

But before you go to your local music store looking for a guitar guru, please consider this:

If you have probably had a lesson or two, and you are reading this page, then why schedule another one if they didn't help in the first place?

Books and DVDs to Learn Guitar?

I purchased a fair amount of books and DVDs supposedly guaranteeing to help me "learn and master the guitar", but read on...

Apart from lessons, I can probably guess that you have purchased a few books or DVDs. "They just frustrated me even more." And yes that's my final answer!

I purchased the Guitar Grimmorie after hearing that it had everything in it about playing the guitar, and it may well had, but it left me feeling confused and overwhelmed.

I also bought Guitar for Dummies, which worked a little better than the Grimmorie, but it still didn't help me to get good enough to play in front of my friends. So I had lost like over $100 on training aids alone.

I also purchased many of the DVDs outlining the methods of my favorite players, but the only thing that did was to leave me further amazed by my guitar heroes and empty my wallet.

None of the above books or DVDs did anything to improve my playing, as I have told you.If you are serious about learning to express yourself through your guitar, check out These Guitar Lessons.

Having a big ambition or a big dream is not wrong . But trying to find shortcuts to fulfil a dream because of impatience can cause stress and disappointment . Basics learned at the beginning are foundations to build dreams on . Being self taught is one thing but personal tuition later brings another to fine tune your progress

You've gotta practice if you're gonna get good...and your lens shows new guitarists that it's normal to feel frustrated at first. If you hang in there and keep working hard you'll get there in the end.
