My Lensography

Hello! Welcome to my Lensography.   I'll give you an overview of who I am and what I enjoy doing. I'll discuss nursing, crocheting, gardening, canning, and a myriad of other subjects. I like to think of myself as an "old-fashioned" kind of woman. I think I may have been born a century or so too late. I find more comfort in the less technical side of life, but am learning to adapt myself to technology.

This lens has been divided into 4 pages. Use the tabs at the top of the page to navigate the lens. Thank you for visiting.

Who Am I?

Registered Nurse, crocheter, gardener, home canner, blogger

Like most people, I have diverse interests. I have been a Registered Nurse (RN) since 1995. Before that I was a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) since 1972.

I started working in the Operating Room in 1980 as a scrub tech. I knew from the first week that this was the field of nursing I wanted to practice for the rest of my career. I went back to nursing school in 1993 and graduated with honors with an Associate Degree in Nursing in 1995.Surgeon holding scalpel.

My class was the second graduating class that took the computerized NCLEX exam. My computer cut off when I answered question #75. I was sure I had failed (I have a tendency to think on the negative side when it's about me). I was the first one to finish in the testing room. I went home and cried. Two weeks later I received a letter from the Florida Board of Nursing congratulating me on passing the NCLEX exam. I couldn't believe it. I was so proud.

AfghanIn 1972, my mother-in-law taught me to crochet. I worked the night shift at a local hospital and the other nurses brought craft projects or books to read to pass away the hours that we weren't very busy. I made many Christmas gifts that year. I still enjoy crocheting gifts. Homemade gifts are very much appreciated.

I have enjoyed gardening since I was a child. My parents had a garden every year and I helped with weeding. As I got older I was permitted to do other gardening activities, like planting and picking the vegetables. As an adult, I have had a garden every year for the past 20 years. I love picking vegetables and fixing them for dinner the same day.canned stuff

I tried my hand at canning when I was in my 20's without success. I didn't try it again until about 4 years ago. This time I was successful. It is a time consuming process, but so fulfilling.

2009- Beth Day entered the 21st century!! I started blogging and making lenses on Squidoo. It's been a fun journey.

Nursing Lenses

I Work in the Operating Room

I have worked in the operating room for 29 years. I started in 1980 as a LPN/scrub technician. From the first day of my orientation and training I knew the OR was the place for me. I wouldn't want to work in any other area of nursing. I LOVE the OR!!

I passed the national certification exam for Operating Room Nurses last month. I am now a CNOR-Certified Nurse Operating Room. It was one of the tougher exams I've taken.

My lens Operating Room Nurses has been nominated for "Best Potential Giant" lens for 2009. I am truly honored. Thank you to all who nominated me and those who voted for me.

Having the added pages really shows off the lenses by topic without the lens being too long. Looking good!
