Beth McKee Elliott

Hi, I'm Beth. I am a wife and mother, a dancer/dance teacher/choreographer by profession. I am certified in Labanotation, a form of dance/movement notation, and I am currently working on a certification in Laban Movement Analysis. I teach tap, ballet, jazz, hip-hop to kids part time, and I pick up a few Modern classes from time to time. I dance for a professional modern dance company, Kathy Harty Gray Dance Theatre.

I am addicted to Bikram yoga. I started doing it in February of '09. It has reshaped my body and made me a calmer person.

I am an amateur-ish photographer. I started out taking photos of my kids, then I branched out into dance photography in grad school. My daughter is an artist and likes to take photos as well, and under her influence and inspiration, I've branched out a bit to more artistic landscape shots.

I like to knit, crochet, and read in my time, usually at night before going to bed. I have more yarn hidden away in plastic bins, baskets, and closets in the house than I will probably ever use. It's a sick obsession, but I love to make things from yarn.

I have two little dogs that I love to pieces. They are small and sweet, and I love having them around me all the time. They bring me so much joy.

I have one tattoo that I got on my 40th birthday. I'm a little normal, and mostly a bit weird.

Here are just a few details about some things I like to do, and links to my online presence.

My Dance Links

I'm a dancer, teacher, choreographer by trade. I even have the paper to prove it!

I have danced as long as I can remember, and it's all I've ever wanted to do, besides be a mom. Here a just a few links to my online dance life.
Beth McKee Elliott, MFA
I fulfilled a lifelong dream in March of 2008 by getting my Master of Fine Arts degree in Dance at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa. Here are my dances, my thesis journal and document, and my final comprehensive exam. It's there for others to learn from.
Beth's Dances
These are not all of my dances, but a nice sampling. Enjoy!
University of Hawaii Dance Photo and Video Pages
I took most of these photos in graduate school, and posted them for my classmates. Some of them are password protected, but if you really want to see them, you can email me for the password.
Kathy Harty Gray Dance Theatre
I've been dancing for the Northern Virginia dance company for about a year.
Dance Enthusiast Profile
A unique portal for NYC dance. I am not in NYC however, so I'm not sure how I made it onto this site.

Knitting and Crochet Stuff

Stuff I do and make.

My grandmothers and aunts were always knitting and crocheting, and it just caught on with me early on. I love making things with yarn! I can't seem to help myself either. People seem to enjoy the little things I make them. It's just my way of showing people that I care, I guess! Besides, it's fun, satisfying, and relaxing.
My Ravelry Profile
See pictures of my projects, and download my knitting and crochet patterns. Ravelry is a ton of fun, if you are a knitter/crocheter and aren't a member of Ravelry, run, don't walk, over there and get yourself a profile!
Ggester Hat by Beth Elliott, aka "Betty McKnit" in Crafts & Hobbies
This is my best pattern, in my opinion. The Ggester Hat by Beth Elliott, aka "Betty McKnit" in Crafts & Hobbies : This three-pronged jester-style striped hat that is warm, whimsical, and just a little bit jingley. It is named after my nephew, whose nickname is G.G.
Take it or Leave it Round Robin
I created this swap group just for fun, and it's one of the best places to visit on Ravelry. A round robin swap is a box of goodies that travels from one member to another. When it reaches you, you take something out, put something in, and send it on to the next person on the list. Usually they are knit-crochet-fiber art- related, but we have themes too, like movie stars, books, pampering, seasonal, colors, etc.
Lafayette's Afghan
Here is a lens my sister LissaKlar made about a pattern I wrote. On True Blood. Lafayette limps home and wraps himself up in a granny square afghan after being tortured by vampires in the dungeon at Fangtasia. This afghan is a recipe to make a similar granny square afghan all your own. Thanks LissaKlar for the great lens.
My Knitting/Crochet Blog
Here's where I blab about my stuff I make. Ravelry has kind of made knitting blogs obsolete, unless, of course, you are not a Ravelry member.
Knut Jobs Yarniti Squad
What are these people doing over here? Who are they? I don't know anything about it.
My Crochet Me Profile Page
I'm not too active on Crochet Me but here's my profile anyhow.

Seems like you're not someone unless you have a Facebook or MySpace these days. Thank goodness I was in graduate school, and surrounded by young, cool, with-it undergrads when these things came out or I would be just as unhip as everyone else my age.

I thoroughly enjoyed learning about you and your interests. I can related to the yarn obsession (I can crochet but not that well and I really don't do it. I just buy yarn and imagine the projects!) You taught me a new word: Labanotation -- thanks. Nice to meet you!. Blessed.
