BET's The Game Season 5

Season five of BET's sitcom THE GAME is here. This time we can expect twenty-two episodes instead of thirteen. Hopefully the entire cast will return as well. If not, I need the core four: Tasha, Malik, Melanie and Derwin. Kelly, Jason and Brit Brat are okay. Yet they are not showstoppers for me.

For anyone who needs to catch up, the television show THE GAME is about a fictitious football team called the San Diego Sabers. The aging star quarterback is Malik Wright. His mother and manager is Tasha Mack. His teammates are Derwin and Jason. Their wives are Melanie and Kelly, respectively.

In season 4 Malik was addicted to painkillers, he slept with his best friend's girl and the team owner's wife. In addition, the Sabers brought in another younger quarterback that may take Malik's spot. Season four was full of drama for Malik. Melanie and Derwin finally lived together as husband and wife. Yet Melanie was overcome by her desire to know if Derwin's baby was really his baby. So, Melanie gave Derwin's son a DNA test. That almost ended their fragile marriage. If that wasn't enough, the season four cliffhanger was the Melanie had an abortion and Derwin wants to know if it was his baby.

Tasha Mack had a whirlwiind romance with a man who lied about being terminally ill just to get with her. She was able to move on without being violent towards the man. That was growth for Tasha. Malik goes back to Tasha Mack Management after his bed-hopping gets him in hot water with the Sabers' general manager and he needs her help to get through his crisis. Once Derwin finds out that Tasha is reppin' Malik, he tells Melanie to fire her if she keeps Malik as a client. Melanie confronted Tasha and it ended with Tasha storming out after throwing Redvine licorice at Melanie.

Kelly and Jason divorced and Kelly left Jason with their teen-aged daughter Brittany. Jason retired from the Sabers and took a job as a talk show host. However, his daughter stole marijuana from Tasha's purse and lied about it. Jason then quit his job so that he could spend time raising his daughter.

Season 5 promises to be eventful. I want to see more jokes from Tasha Mack and I want to see real-world issues addressed. I also hope that Kelly stops insulting Tasha and Melanie.
