One of the pleasures of summertime is swimming. Women who enjoy this form of recreation look for a new swimsuit in the latest fashion each year. One of the fashion lines they look at is the Betsey Johnson bathing suits line.
Bathing Suit Fashion
The bikini, which has been such a hit over the past few years, actually was popular eons ago in Greece. Eventually swimming was banned altogether for a period of time and when it again resumed the type of apparel worn was entirely different. However, it is ironic that this type of swimwear, popular so long ago, is now fashionable.
In the 18th century swimming began in England and France but was a far cry from what is done today. For example, men and women could not be in the water together so had to have separate areas. In addition, there was no swimming as is done today, it consisted of a person taking a quick dip and then leaving the water.
When swimming was finally recognized as a recreational sport, in the late 1800's, people flocked to the beach. The women's swimwear was awkward and unyielding with a smock-type top, held in place by heavy weights and with the rest of the body fully covered. Men's suits were one piece from shoulders to the knees.
For many years modesty dictated the swimwear styles. A woman's body had to be completely concealed with suits that were like dresses with bloomers. In addition, many required ribbed stockings to cover the legs. Most women had a hat, with an elastic band on their head, as well and, colors were pretty much the same.
The past few years have seen a deluge of different types of bikinis that conceal little of a woman's body. However, new on the market, with these suits, is the mini-skirt which replaces the traditional bottom. This addition has become very popular with beach goers and people who swim elsewhere. They have found that this addition gives an entirely different appearance to the overall look. In addition, many of this type of swimsuit has new color combinations and other additions that make them stand out from the original plain ones that appeared in the marketplace.
Today's swim wear reveals a woman's body, especially some of the bikinis. However, in addition to this style one will find many attractive suits on the market that are one and two pieced and are built to fit specific body shapes, not like the previous one style fits all. Today's fashion designers, are going beyond the everyday style and have added extras such as ruffles, bikini skirts and different textures.
Designing a swimwear requires a lot of thought regarding the body shape, movement, type, color and so forth. In this particular line one will find colors such as rainbow, black and white, green and floral prints. They are designed to not only flatter a woman's figure, but be comfortable as well. This particular line of clothing, Betsey Johnson bathing suits, began in 1978 with a 'punk fashion' label and has been known for its 'one of a kind' pieces. It has been noted for its touch of class as well as giving the feeling of a free spirit and fun. Only the finest fabrics and materials are used in the construction of these swimsuits.
