If there is one secret to getting Betta Fish to breed it's water temperature. Betta love nice even temp, and the best breeding temperature is 80f. The problem is most submersible heaters are big and bulky and designed for bigger tanks. Betta breeding is usually done in small tanks 5-10 gal size (no bigger really) so this is the perfect heater really for successfully breeding bettas.

Betta Fish Care Basics
Miss these Betta Fighting Fish care Tips and You Could Invite Disease
Water Quality - As with all tropical fish The PH level of your water source is important to maintaining healthy fish and betta are no exception. The betta fish prefers as close to neutral water as possible, 7.0, but can manage in water that is between 6.5 and 7.5.
Water Temperature - The temperature of the water inside your tank is also important, as the betta fish is considered a tropical fish. Water temperature between 72 and 82 degrees Fahrenheit is ideal for healthy betta fish care.
One way to tell if the water is too hot or cold is by watching the betta fish's behavior. A sluggish, slow moving fish is likely feeling a chill and a hyperactive fish (unless it is feeding time) indicates water that the water might be too hot. Either of these symptions is indications that the fish is under stress and so you should take notice.
Vegetation - Remember the betta is native to countries like Tailand and Vietnam and as such wild bettas are often found in rice fields and muddy rivers. Plants help to keep your aquarium stress-free, bettas love to rest on the leaves of plants so adding some plants (plastic or real) is a great way to insure a healthy betta.
Feeding Your Betta - Bettas only require that you feed them once a day. Betta fish prefer live food (who wouldn't if you were a fish), but feeding them freeze dried food is often alot more convenient and an affordable alternative for proper betta fish care.
There is special betta food available for daily staple feeding often called betta pellets, but always supplement this with some freeze-dried mosquito larvae - called "bloodworms", or brine shrimp. I wouldn't do this everyday but it helps to insure a healthy happy betta fish.

- PREPARE BETTA FISH SPAWNING TANK
Written by Tossatam Siripoonsap
Many betta lovers failed in breeding betta with many reasons. One of the main reason is the condition of spawn tank is not suitable so the male doesn't make bubble nest...he doesn't want to breeding.
Today I would like to share how to prepare betta fish spawning tank. It's my way. I usually prepare spawn tank with this solution...GUARANTEE 90% success!!
1.I use tap water for breeding betta fish...add tap water into spawn tank about 4-5 inch height. Add a little salt and put 2-3 Indian Almond leaves into the tank. Put aquarium plants that you can find at your home. See the picture.
2. Put the male & the female's tank into this spawn tank. Let them look at one another. Give them food 2 times daily.
Leave it about 5-7 days...then put the male & the female into this spawn tank.
I think you will success in breeding your betta fish :)

- I have bred Bettas several times in my life. I remember the first time was when I was about 13 in Idaho. I had a hard time trying to sell them off to the local stores (there weren't a lot of them) but was able to trade them in for fish food for my other aquariums. I think I even ended up feeding some of them to my dempsey and turtles!
It was a great experience and I learned a lot. I remember one time I ended up with a brood that ended up with 25% of them with crooked backs. Gave me some real experience in genetics at the time.

- Hi Melissa the trick in breeding baby bettas all liesin keeping a constant temperature on the water surface ie do not open the tank lid for the first month,This is due to the betta being a labrinth fish & during this time the organ in the head develops! Any change to the surface tempertaure during this stage wil give the fish a cold & the labrinth willl block up thus killing the fry.the way to avoid this is to place lettuce leaves in a jar with tank water & leave it in the sun to go green this green water creates single cell organisims that the fry eat, after that use a syringe & pump tube & introduce infusoria baby brine shrimp which you need to cultivate yourself & add them via the syringe & ensure the tank is completely sealed with tape,Because the infusoria grow in salt water wash them in fresh water before introduction to the tank,As for getting the fish to grow big use a 6 foot tank & once the fry are 1 month old introduce them to this tank,The more room the quicker they grow simple fact & feed plenty of brine shrimp daily for best results,After four months you wil be able to sex the fish ie male from female & remove all the males or they will kill each other at this point,The females will tolerate each other in a large tank.If I can help any further please dont hesite to return an E-Mail to me Sean Phillips PS water temp 28-30 degrees half tank water purified & half distilled water add peat moss or peat moss extract to this & run no pump just an air stone 2 hours on 4 hours off

Breeding Betta Fish 101
A Quick Primer on Breeding Betta Fish Successfully
I remember when I was a boy and breed fish as a hobby I quickly found how tricky it actually was to try and breed bettas. Breeding betta fish is definitely not easy and for those you want to learn more i do highly recommend the above mentioned book, it will give you all the information you need to successfully breed bettas.
For those who would like a quick primer on betta breeding, here goes, my top 5 quick tips on breeding betta fish successfully:
1) Don't use Store Bought Bettas. Well, I hated to break it to you like that, but unless you have quality breeding betta stock to start with, you will NEVER produce any quality bettas. Why simply because for the most part store bought bettas are old fish with no drive if you know what I mean, often unhealthy to start off with and have the wrong tail type.
2) Avoid the larger, flashier bettas I know it sounds weird and contrary to what you would think in breeding any type of quality animal, but remember Young bettas may not look very striking, as they have not yet had a chance to blossom and to grow striking finnage but they generally have alot more energy are most robust. Seasoned betta breeders will always go for young, smaller pairs.
3) Always buy breeding betta stock in pairs It is always best to get both your male and female from the same breeder. If at all possible, you should buy a brother and sister. If no siblings are available then ask the breeder you are buying from to select a suitable mate for your betta with compatible genes. This is a very important detail too often overlooked by beginners. Unless you have both pieces of the puzzle, you will not be able to successfully reproduce the traits of the strain you have selected.
4) Always buy at LEAST 2 pairs of the strain you wish to breed. Why quite simply bettas are picky breeders. Bettas have tastes and personalities just like people and not every time you put two together are you going to end up with a love connection. No love, no spawning. Plus one male might not be a good breeder but his brother is. One pair might get sick, and the list goes on. So make sure you always buy at LEAST 2 pair.
5) Buy ONLY from a reputable breeder Buy only from a knowledgeable, reputable, established, experienced, ethical and seasoned IBC breeder.

- Awsometasticly epicly-epic lens ....*sorry i ate 2 much ice tea im so hyper*...
I have a male betta i called "fading darkness"...but we just call him "Oscuro"
...my family and i ...actually bought "Opal" a very young female fry (maybe adult)
at the very wrong time though......
Oscuro liked getting my attention so much...jumping and kissing for a piece of food...i see why he always flares at Opal when he gets the chance....
...but nce i saw her i was inlove with her fins pointed with blue yet 2 grow..
...but boy she is soo intelegent...though the food i gave her was a bit 2 bit 4 her mouth she always had something in her mind...she was VERYattracted to the vibration outside her tank *music, rings, bangs etc.*...
...it is actually pretty cutew really...

- Right now I don't have room in my house for an aquarium or a partner that will allow it! Anyhow I have a big vase that I converted into a Betta home. It holds about half a gallon of water. It sits in the corner behind my sink. It has a few sprigs of anubis and 2 small snails to keep the algae down. I change the water out ever two weeks and only feed small amounts of food every two days. Sometimes I have left him without food for 5 days. I am happy to say that he has been in there for 2 years. He is a milky beige with red mottling. To me the key is keeping the water clean, having the plants, snails and feeding in the most small amounts.

- #3 - Buying brother & sister for breeding is not a smart suggestion & it is not backed up with any scholarly research articles. With any species it is always better to breed animals that are not brother and sister to avoid Gin Defects. IE look at the cultures where brothers & sisters or cousins marry each other, they all ware glasses, their cohort of people usually have variety of genetic diseases due to the fact that their genes have not had the opportunity to mix that well. Aren't inter racial couple babies usually way cuter?
