Betta Fish Care - Knowing What Your Betta Wants
Unfortunately there is a lot of bad information out there. Hopefully you can get things right after reading this post. After all, I have been through the emotions. Last fall I had 6 Bettas and 4 Oscars. Now I only have 1 Oscar and 1 Betta. Everything is working perfectly now and aquarium is looking better than ever. And learned a lot during this process so I'm hoping to pass some of that knowledge alog to you. If everything goes as planned I will be looking at Betta breeding by the end of summer :)

Betta Fish Care Super Hot Tips
Betta Fish are rather easy to take care of but you can make sure your fish is in extra good shapeBetta Fish Care Tip #1 | Size of the tank matters
Don't listen to the people that tell you that a Betta fish needs very little space. Even thought they are not completely wrong you want to make sure that your fish can swim in the tank comfortably. 2 gallon tank might be sufficient but I recommend going for a 5 gallon tank (about 20 liter). When you decorate the tank be careful not to put in any sharp rocks or objects. You don't want your beautiful Betta to rip or tear her/his fins.
Betta Fish Care Tip #2 | Make sure the water is clean
Of course this is a no brainer but clean water is essential for your Betta fish. It's not essential to have a water filter but you should change about 1/4 of the water in the tank twice every week. By keeping it this nice and clean you help keeping away infections. Steady temperature is important so do not use the water straight from the tap but try to let it stand until it gets to room temperature. You need to keep the PH levels at around 7.0 so make sure that you own a PH testing kit (available at any pet store)
Betta Fish Care Tip #3 | Monitor the temperature
When you have had your Betta fish for some time you will learn to recognize it's behavior and activities. You will then be able to see if your fish is doing poorly. If it seems lethargic then measure the temperature of the water. If it is too cold your fish will seem listless. The ideal temperature should be about 82 Fahrenheit (28°C).
Betta Fish Care Tip #4 | Make sure you have a lid on your tank
Your Betta fish likes to jump :) Due to this you should try to keep the water lever approx. 2-3 inches below the top of your tank. This along with the lid should prevent your fish from jumping onto the table. Be careful that you DO NOT USE airtight lid. Bettas like to come up to the water surface for air so make sure there are good air holes on the lid.
Betta Fish Care Tip #5 | Cleaning the tank is important
NEVER, NEVER, EVER use soap or detergents to clean out your fish tank! This is extremely important. Just use warm water and a plastic brush to scrub the rocks or decorations you have. If there is old food stuck to the bottom of the tank then try using a pipette or a kitchen baster. Doing this will ensure that your tank is always fresh and doesn't smell.
Betta Fish Care Tip #6 | Not just any food
You can feed your fish with the normal fish food you buy at your local pet shop but if you really want a happy Betta fish you should feed him with live food and enjoy the show! Your Betta will absolutely love live foods such as shrimps or bloodworms. You should also try feeding him on thinly chopped vegetables like broccoli, carrots and soybeans for variety. Feeding your Betta in a wide range of good will help it live longer.
Betta Fish Care Tip #7 | Is your Betta fish lonely?
Don't forget that Bettas are also called Siamese fighting fish! Therefor you should never keep other Betta fish in the same tank. You should also avoid having mirrors or other shiny surfaces near the tank as your Betta will flare up at the slightest sign of another Betta, even though it's his own mirror image. Male Bettas are much worse in this behavior than the females. Yes, it may be fun to watch but all the stress you are causing your Bett will simply decrease its lifespan and cause problems. You can however keep other fish with your Bettas. Cory catfish, Platies and Loaches are among the ideal tankmates.

Tap Water Can Kill Your Betta
If your local water supply is treated with chloramines then you have to treat the water with AmQuel (available at pet stores).
Plain tap water from the tap WILL KILL your fish unless you use a product called "stress coat" (available at pet stores)

Betta fish care and tips Version 1
ATTENTION: i have made a version 2 of this video, please watch it, it is a little more detailed and informative. This video is all about how to care and how to NOT care about Bettas/Siamese Fighting Fish. I would like to thank MetalgyrlACD for her inspiration and her info. Something that i didn't include is: Change the water with a cyphen every weeks about 1/4 of the water, feed them small abouts a few times a day that includes a good quality pellet food and frozen and freeze dried brine shrimp and bloodworms(they LOVE live food, but unless you have cultured it yourself it's not worth the risk of an internal bacterial infection), and NEVER put 2 males together in the same tank(unless they are blocked by a divider, lol) And there water temp can be between 20-28 celcius( 26 being ideal). I hope you guys enjoy it and people dont leave hateful or nasty comments please! O-O Also i should reccomend that you use a kh( carbonate hardness), gh(general hardness), ammonia, nitrite and ph test kits on your water to keep it at a pristine level for your fishie, also some good tankmates for them are definetley Corydoras catfish, and neons, although you have to be carefull with the neons, they CAN be fin nippers, although this is rare and usually only occures when the fish are stressed out and not in a school of at least 5, but it can happen. Feel free to leave any questions or queries! HAPPY 2 HELP!
