Betta Fish Care

Betta Fish Care consists of three main things; water quality, tank quality and diet. It is important to note that failing to fulfill any of the three main betta care requirements is likely to seriously harm your betta.

Water Quality
You need to make sure that the water quality in the betta fish tank is suitable for betta fish. Keep the temperature of the water around 80 degrees fahrenheit. Make sure that the pH of the water is around 7 (neutral). Any wild fluctuations in temperature or pH is likely to cause it serious harm.

Tank Quality
You need to make sure that the betta tank that you buy is suitable for betta fish. Ensure that it is at least a ten gallon tank and be sure to add some decoration to it. You MUST allow the pump to go through at least one cycle before adding your betta fish, otherwise, there is a high chance that it will get ammonium poisoning.

Diet
There are many different opinions on what a betta fish's diet should be. Personally, I recommend that you feed it combination betta pellets, because they provide the normal amount of nutrition that a betta fish would normally get from just eating raw food, but also adds the benefit of extra minerals to your betta's diet. I find that varying my betta's diet provides the best results, so feel free to experiment and find what works best for you. One thing you must remember though, is that feeding a betta fish too much food can be deadly. Not because it will become overweight or anything like that, but because the betta fish will simply not eat the remaining food, which will cause bacteria to grow in the tank, quite possibly making your betta fish sick.
