Let's Talk about Tanks
You are probably wondering what to put your new Betta in when you arrive home from the pet store...well this is a critical moment for you and your new family member.Just like a new baby arriving home from the hospital, a new Betta needs a nice, clean, peaceful environment for it to thrive. This begins with the size of your tank. Let's face it, you have seen your Betta at the store just hovering in that tiny little bowl at the store and you probably thought, "can they live like that?"
They can and will if you let them, but is that the best habitat for them? No. I am a firm believer in that a bigger home is better for them. It allows them to grow and explore their surroundings.
So what size is good for a new Betta?
I prefer a tank that is at least 1/2 gallon to 1 gallon capacity. If your wondering what that size will look like setting on a table or ledge, imagine a gallon of milk or juice. That is what we are talking here. That size generally allows for good growth as well as movement for the Betta.
Can you go bigger?
Absolutely, if you want. Betta fish are just as comfortable in a large tank as a small one. For them it just means more freedom and cleaner water for a longer period of time!

-A personal Betta Fish Secrets testimony-
Ok, so you probably want to know how Betta Fish Secrets helped me?Well, first of all, Betta Fish Secrets isn't an ordinary short book with no meat. On the contrary, Mike has put together a ton of valuable information on how to take care of your Betta fish.
Betta Fish Secrets helped me and my daughter pick out "Charlie" our Betta. He is a beautifully colored blue Betta with a great tail. He often likes to dart back and forth when he sees my daughter coming to feed him. We plan on upgrading our tank in the near future to accomadate "Beauty" our next family member.
Betta Fish Secrets has helped me to keep "Charlie" both happy and healthy which keeps my daughter very happy!
Sincerely,
E-man

Did you know Betta Fish can breath direct from the air?
They breath normally through their gills, but they also have an organ called a Labyrinth organ (because the organ looks like a maze) that allows them to suck in air at the waters surface.
This organ has many benefits to the Betta. It allows them to survive living in oxygen depleted waters such as the rice paddies of southeast asia or those tiny little jars at pet shops.

- I have had a red ( i think male betta) for about 6 mounthes and lately he has been looking and acting very sick. It is a pain to get him to eat and he barely moves at all. What i am most concerned about are his fins. they are very droopy and tattered looking. I am allmost 100 % sure that my betta is sick but I know what disease he has and how to treat it .
thanks-carly

- i go to boarding school and had to leave my beta with my grandfather. he then decided that "the beta" was lonely... so he went and bought a female betta and placed it in the tank with the male beta. i intially freaked out when learning of this but i couldnt believe my eyes when i returned home the two bettas where living peacefully and he is now thinking of introducing another female to the tank. what he will name it i have no idea, the two we have now are named sushi and sashimi.
