Become a Genius
Geniuses aren't born--necessarily--they're made!
The Silva Life System teaches that geniuses use more of their minds and they use them in a more effective manner.
By learning to think at the Alpha level of mind you can start to think like a genius.
Alpha Thinking and The Silva Life System
The brain operates on a small amount of electrical energy; this electric current vibrates at different speeds. Just as your heart beats so many times per minute, your brain vibrates so many times per second. Your brain's rhythm or your level of brain activity plays a decisive role in the quality of life that you're experiencing. The Silva Life System teaches how to control and slow down your brain's rhythm, and how to function at the Alpha brain wave level, the brain frequency at which high achievers think.
The Brain Frequency Spectrum
The brain frequency spectrum has been divided into four different segments, based on the number of cycles per second. The four spectrums are Beta, Alpha, Theta, and Delta.
At Beta, the conscious or waking state, the brain vibrates at a rate of between 20 and 40 cycles per second (cps). At Alpha, usually associated with REM sleep, the brain vibrates at a rate of between 7 and 14 cps. At Theta, the speed of the brain's vibration is between 4 and 7 cps; this level of the mind is associated with deep, comfortable sleep. And lastly, at Delta--associated with very deep sleep or the state at which you're completely unconscious--the brain's vibrations are below 4 cps.
When a person becomes stressed, fearful, angry, nervous, or feels any stirring emotion, the brain's rhythm increases and brain activity rises. The more stressed we become, the more rapidly our brain waves vibrate. All negative thoughts, as well as anger, fear, and compulsive cravings, tend to be fast.
On the other hand, slower brain waves are associated with people who are calm, confident, and at ease. Positive thoughts, like love, patience, and understanding, are slow.
Benefits of Slowing Down Our Minds
What are the benefits of slowing down our minds?
-- By slowing down our brain vibrations we can train the mind to focus completely in the present.
-- We can remain calm even while under pressure.
-- Alpha is a very receptive mental state; research has shown that you can use the Alpha state for accelerated learning.
-- Affirmations and creative visualization are more effective at the Alpha level of mind.
-- Alpha is associated with deep relaxation, which is essential to your health and well-being.
--Slowing down your brain's rhythm is conducive to creative thinking and intuition, and is excellent for problem solving, as well as for finding new ideas. To quote Albert Einstein: "We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them."
Learn to Slow Down Your Brain Frequency
"A mind that is fast is sick. A mind that is slow is sound. A mind that is still is divine." -- Meher Baba
Scientific research has shown that most people do their thinking at the Beta level, while only 10% of the population are natural Alpha thinkers. That is, most people enter the subconscious state and then fall asleep when their brain frequency slows down to Alpha. High achievers are able to stay awake at the Alpha level and do their thinking at this deeper level of mind. The Silva Life System teaches how to consciously lower your brain wave activity and enter the Alpha state at will, while remaining awake, so that anyone can take advantage of the myriad of benefits of thinking at the Alpha level.Download your free demo of the Silva Life System now and begin to experience the many benefits of Alpha thinking for yourself.

What is the function of the Beta frequency?
The Left Hemisphere of the Brain
- The Beta frequency is best for using logical formulas and deduction; it works from premises to conclusions.
- It's for the rational mode of thinking.
- Thinking at Beta allows analytical thinking.
- Use the Beta frequency to collect information about the physical world through the 5 senses.
- This frequency is for linear, progressive-type thinking.
- The Beta frequency is associated with left-brain thinking.
What is the function of the Alpha frequency?
The Right Hemisphere of the Brain
- When thinking at the Alpha level you can see the whole; that is, you can see the big picture. Some say that the Beta frequency is for looking at the trees while the Alpha frequency is for looking at the forest.
- The Alpha level is for tapping into information that is not available or accesible to the five senses; access your intuition by slowing your brain waves to the Alpha frequency.
- This level of the brain allows the development of creative ideas.
- Use the Alpha level of thinking to find the cause of a problem and correct it at its roots.
- This frequency is for quantum-leap thinking.
- The Alpha level is associated with the right hemisphere of the brain.
Most people don't use their right brain hemisphere: learn to think with both brain hemispheres with the Silva Life System.
"Good health and inner peace are just the beginning in terms of the benefits offered by meditation."
The bottom line is, people who meditate are more successful and prosperous than those who don't.
Relax to Get What You Want in Life - The Silva Life System
Learn to Meditate
The Silva Life System will teach you how to completely relax both physically and mentally while at Alpha, the brain frequency associated with meditation. Although the main emphasis of the Silva Life System is dynamic meditation--activating your mind while meditating to achieve whatever you desire--the method also extols the importance of relaxing completely while at Alpha for stress relief, which strengthens your immune system. The term used in the Silva Life System for slowing your brain waves down to the Alpha frequency is "going to level". Going to level is simply learning to relax, to quiet mind chatter, and to focus your thoughts so that you can let yourself drop into a quieter, deeper level of consciousness.
Simple Meditation Routine
Below you will find a simple meditation routine so that you can begin to practice slowing down your thinking.
1. Ideally, you should meditate for at least fifteen minutes a day. Also, you should try to meditate at the same time each day to help create a sense of ritual.
2. Find a quiet place where you won't be interrupted. You can lie down or sit with your back straight and without crossing your arms or your legs.
3. You can play soft music if you'd like, or light a candle. Anything ritualistic helps signal to your brain that it's time to slow down. In addition, certain music, such as Baroque music, helps induce the Alpha state. Another alternative is to play the "alpha sound"--a tape offered by Silva International--quietly in the background.
4. Close your eyes and concentrate on your breathing. Awareness of the breathing process is itself sufficient to slow down your breathing rate. Let your abdomen move upward on inhalation and downward on exhalation.5. The standard way of relaxing and entering the alpha frequency in the Silva Life System is to associate numbers with each state. Number 6 is the outer conscious level, number 5 is eyelid fatigue, number 4 is eyes closed and ready to relax, number 3 is physical relaxation, number 2 is mental relaxation, and number 1 is the alpha level.
6. To relax even more, count backwards slowly from 50 to 1, and feel yourself relaxing more and more with each number. You can also imagine a warm, gentle light entering through the top of your head and moving slowly down toward your toes, relaxing your body completely.
7. Picture a peaceful setting. It can be the beach, the mountains, a lake, or any place that makes you feel calm and serene.
8. Continue to concentrate on your breathing. If your mind wanders, simply bring it gently back to the present moment and refocus on your breath. It often helps to repeat a simple phrase to help keep you focused, such as the Zen saying: "Simply being with what is."
9. Once you feel a sense of calm, you can begin the process of inner listening. You can also use this time to silently repeat your positive affirmations and/or to practice creative visualization.
10. When you're ready to come out, tell yourself that when you open your eyes at the count of 5, you will be completely awake and alert, feeling better than before.
A lot of people have trouble quieting their minds and simply being still using "breathing meditations" such as the one described above. The techniques and methods taught by the Silva Life System offer a shortcut to meditation, so that anyone can obtain the many benefits of this ancient practice in a short amount of time.

Meditation Duel
Is meditation a practical tool that can be used by anyone to create a better life, or is meditation limited to relaxation and spirituality?

chefkeem says:
Meditation as I understand it, simply allows higher guidance to enter my consciousness. An appropriate prayer at the beginning should be an affirmation to allow only the highest good, and to protect from negative influences. Then it's all stillness, no thoughts, open mind...zzzzzzz...(it's o.k. to fall asleep, too.) Success, self-confidence, better living - these will all happen as a consequence of a higher consciousness. We shouldn't be concerned with any specific outcome when we enter a meditation session. If we knew already what's best for us (in a universal/eternal sense), we wouldn't have to meditate. :-)

Albert Einstein, Quantum Physics, and the Silva Life System
Quantum physics, a branch of science that was born in the early 20th century, is the study of the subatomic particles that make up the universe. Scientists--such as Albert Einstein, Max Planck, and Niels Bohr--discovered that these particles sometimes behave like matter and sometimes behave like energy waves.
While these microscopic particles are behaving like energy, they exist as probability. However, when they're observed, they act like solid matter localized in time and space.
What we perceive to be hard matter is just condensed energy. Think of Albert Einstein's famous formula: "E = mc2", or, energy equals mass multiplied by the speed of light squared.
This formula basically states that if you were to speed up the particles that make up matter--say, a pencil--to the velocity of the speed of light squared, it would turn into energy. Hence, matter is condensed energy. Matter can be turned into energy and energy can be turned into matter.
In addition, every solid particle of matter is composed of more than 99.999 percent empty space. Also, think of the following to help you reinterpret your understanding of "solid matter": the void between two electrons is proportionately the same size as the space between two galaxies.
For our purposes in this discussion, the most important aspects of quantum physics are the following:
1. Everything in our universe is energy.
2. There is one energy that makes up all things.
3. Scientists have discovered that subatomic particles act and respond in exact proportion to the thoughts or expectations of the scientists who were conducting the studies.
4. That is, you're immersed in a quantum soup of energy that is all potential: it is waiting for your directive to set it in motion.
5. By focusing on a desired outcome you transform this ever-changing sea of energy into observable reality.
Energy Turning into Matter and the Silva Life System
So, what does energy turning into matter have to do with the Silva Life System?
The Silva Life System is one of the best ways to learn the technique of creative visualization, which is using your imagination to create what you want in your life. Shakti Gawain, author of "Creative Visualization", explains the process as follows: "In creative visualization you use your imagination to create a clear image of something you wish to manifest. . . The idea is like a blueprint; it creates an image of the form, which then magnetizes and guides the physical energy to flow into that form and eventually manifests it on the physical plane."
Einstein always stressed the importance of imagination, as is illustrated in the following quote: "Imagination is the preview of life's coming attractions".

Your Thoughts Create Your Life
Decide what it is that you want.
Create a clear picture of it in your mind.
Add as much detail as you can.
Meditate every day and include positive affirmations and creative visualization in your meditation sessions.
Add emotion, desire, belief, and expectation.
Throughout your day refer often to the mental picture of what you want.
The Third Insight and the Silva Life System
"A Matter of Energy"
The Celestine Prophecy is a parable written by James Redfield describing the growth of human consciousness. It's the story of the discovery in Peru of an ancient manuscript written at about the same time that the ruins at Machu Picchu were built by the Incas, and the main character's quest to discover the nine insights contained in this mysterious document. The third insight contained in the manuscript states that the universe is a field of energy, energy that responds to human expectations. That is, the basic stuff of the universe is pure energy that is malleable to human intention and expectation.
In other words, energy forms the basis of and radiates outward from all things, including humans. People can learn to project their energy consciously to affect the things that happen to them and the things and other people that they attract into their lives.
The main character in the Celestine Prophecy--who remains nameless--learns that because all things are literally one and therefore interconnected, through their thoughts and feelings people can cause their energy to flow out into the world and affect their environment. This is well-illustrated in the following quote from "The Celestine Prophecy, An Experiential Guide":
"Most esoteric literature advises that a combination of emotional charge and vivid imagining stimulates the ability to attract into our lives that which we desire."
Apply the Third Insight in Your Life With The Silva Life System
The Silva Life System teaches a technique called "The Mental Screen". The Mental Screen serves as an area for you to project and develop your ability to use visualization and imagination. The Silva Life System explains that everything that exists was first created in the mental or spiritual dimension. That is, everything that is was first a thought. The Mental Screen is a very effective technique that will help you to focus your energy so that you can transfer what you wish to manifest from the spiritual plane to the physical plane.

Mentally Rehearse Success
Whenever you have to give a presentation, go on a job interview, participate in a sporting event, or there's anything else you want to do well, simply go to level a few times before "the big day" and visualize yourself succeeding. See yourself building rapport with the interviewer, visualize yourself standing confidently in front of an attentive audience, see the crowd cheer as you score a touchdown, and so on. Prepare to succeed with mental rehearsal while at level.

Deepak Chopra and The Silva Life System
Create Health with the Silva Life System
In "Ageless Body, Timeless Mind", Dr. Deepak Chopra--acknowledged as one of the world's greatest leaders in the field of mind body medicine-- examines in great depth the connection between mind and body. He emphasizes the following throughout the book:
"In their essential state, our bodies are composed of energy and information, not solid matter. This energy and information is an outcropping of infinite fields of energy and information spanning the universe."
In essence, our cells are always eavesdropping on our thoughts and responding accordingly; the activity inside your cells is directly influenced by how you think and act. Therefore, we can consciously rejuvenate our cells and create a healthy body with our minds.
Because he believes that we create our bodies as we create the experience of our world, Dr. Chopra advices to consciously insert intentions, or positive affirmations, of well being into our daily thoughts.
Apply Dr. Chopra's Recommendations with the Silva Life System
As stated above, Dr. Chopra recommends that we use positive affirmations to harness the power of our self-talk and create health. The Silva Life System encourages the repetition of health-related affirmations while "at level" to create optimum health.
In addition, Dr. Chopra explains in his book that besides its spiritual implications, meditation has profound effects on the body. He adds that long-term meditators can have a biological age between 5 and 12 years younger than their chronological age. Therefore, the mere process of going to level with the Silva Life System can help you slow down the aging process.

"Attract wealth by forming a clear mental picture of what you wish to manifest while at Alpha."
"The Science of Getting Rich" and the Silva Life System
In 1910, Wallace D. Wattles wrote the success classic "The Science of Getting Rich". This book--now in the public domain--is essential reading for anyone who wants to become wealthy.Wattles explains in the third chapter of his book that everything you see on earth is made from one original substance-or formless stuff-out of which all things proceed. This original substance is the raw material of all things and it is alive with creative energy, constantly turning into different shapes, with new forms being made and others dissolving on a continuous basis.
In the preface of "The Science of Getting Rich", Wattles explains that the reader should accept the principles laid out in his book on faith, and then proceed to prove their truth by acting on them.
He then cites the authorities from which he developed the science of getting rich. First, he explains that the monistic theory of the universe, the theory that All-is-One and that this one substance manifests itself as the seemingly different elements of the material world, is of Hindu origin. In addition, it is the foundation of the philosophies of Descartes, Spinoza, Leibnitz, Schopenhauer, Hegel, and Emerson.
Formless Substance
Everything that exists, from the planets to an oak tree, from mud huts to great works of art, is created from the original substance. In addition, this substance permeates all the space in, through, and between all the forms in the visible universe.
Throughout the book, Wattles refers to the "formless substance" in many different terms, such as: original substance; formless stuff; the universe; God; the Divine; the supreme power; the one living substance; creative energy; thinking stuff; and so on.
Furthermore, Wattles points out that the formless stuff is intelligent. It is alive and is constantly producing more forms. It is the natural impulse of life to seek more life, and to seek to express itself more fully, and the original substance is always looking for ways to advance and increase life.
Forms are Impressed into Original Substance by Our Thoughts
Wattles goes on to explain that forms are created or impressed into this formless substance by thoughts. Everything that exists was first a thought which caused original substance to take the form of that thought.
A thought does not create instantaneous results, but, instead, it starts in motion the forces which will produce the material manifestation of that which has been thought about along established lines of growth.
Wattles offers the construction of a house as an example. The thought of constructing a house will not cause the instant formation of a house, but it will cause the turning of the energies working in trade and commerce to move along the lines necessary for the construction of the house. That is, the creative forces are set to work in and through their regular channels of action, but directed toward you.
When a person has a thought, they hold an image of the thought in their mind. This image is communicated to the formless substance and begins to take shape in said substance, until it is manifested in material form. That is, a person causes the formation, or creation, of the thing they're thinking about.

The Silva Life System teaches creative visualization--using mental energy to transform your life--so you can begin to use the process of "communicating your thoughts" to the formless substance more effectively.

Meditation is used as a broad term for practices done by a sole practitioner without much, if any, external aid, often for the purpose of self-transformation. Often, though not at all necessarily, meditation is done as part of a religious tradition.

"Do More, Achieve Less" and the Silva Life System
Put Yourself in Harmony
In the wonderful book "Do Less, Achieve More", Chin-Ning Chu tells the story of a village that had been experiencing drought for five long years. They called every rainmaker they could find in the nearby villages and asked for help, but they all failed to make rain. Finally, in one last attempt, they called a very famous rainmaker from afar. When he arrived, the rainmaker did not begin to sing, chant, and dance about. Instead, he went into his tent and stayed there for four consecutive days. On the fifth day, the rain started to fall.
The villagers went to the rainmaker in amazement and asked him how he had done it. The rainmaker simply replied:
"When I arrived, the first thing I noticed was that everything in your village was out of harmony with heaven. So I spent four days putting myself into harmony with the Divine. Then the rains came."
A lot of people think that in order to be successful they need to run around frantically doing ten things at the same time. At any given moment they'll be picking up the dry cleaning, while on their cell phone on a business call, while spending "quality time" with their child, and so on. If you slow down, are mindful about what you're doing, and take time to meditate you will put yourself in harmony and be able to accomplish a lot more than by rushing about.
The Silva Life System can help you put yourself in harmony by teaching you how to slow down your brain waves and quiet down your mind chatter.

Use the Silva Life System to Get Better Grades
The Three Finger Technique
The "three finger technique" is a trigger mechanism taught in the Silva Life System so that you can use the benefits of thinking at the alpha level when it's not feasible to go to level using the standard method. That is, it will allow you to enter the alpha level with your eyes open. This technique is especially useful in improving communication with others, recalling information, increasing focus and concentration, and increasing creativity. Basically, you're conditioned, while at level, so that any time you bring together the thumb and the first two fingers of either hand, or both, you will function at the alpha state. One of the best uses of the "three finger technique" is for students who are preparing to take a test. You can achieve better results with the three finger technique if you program yourself for a specific desired result. For example, if you're going to attend a lecture and you would like to be at the alpha level during the lecture for better retention, program yourself while at alpha before the lecture and tell yourself that when you put your thumb and the first two fingers of either hand together during the lecture, you will enter the alpha level and be better able to focus and listen attentively to the lecturer. You can do the same thing before reading a book that contains information that is important to you and that you would like to be able to easily recall at a later time.
If you're going to study for an exam, enter the alpha level using the standard method and tell yourself that you're going to count from one to three, at which point you will open your eyes and read the textbook in front of you with superior concentration and understanding. Mention the name of the textbook that you're about to read, the subject matter, and the author. When you're done reading the text, enter level once again and tell yourself that whenever you put together your thumb and the first two fingers of either hand, you will have perfect recall of the text that you just read. During the test you just put your thumb and the first two fingers of either hand together and proceed to answer your test questions.
In addition to the three finger technique, the relaxation exercises taught by the Silva Life System will help you to reduce any "test anxiety" and will help you to remain relaxed while studying for the test and while taking the actual exam. Also, repeating positive affirmations and using creative visualization to "see" yourself doing well on the test--two other techniques taught in the Silva Life System--are both beneficial and will help you to do better on your exams.

"Put the actions that will help you create your optimal life on autopilot by adopting good habits."
Change Your Habits with The Silva Life System
"Your net worth to the world is usually determined by what remains after your bad habits are subtracted from your good ones." - Benjamin FranklinA habit is basically something that you do without thinking. Every weekday as soon as you get home from work you pop a frozen pizza into the microwave, you take a beer out of the fridge, you sit in your favorite chair, and you turn on the television; when the microwave buzzer goes off you take the pizza out, eat it, and watch TV for a couple of more hours. Your alarm clock goes off at 5:00 a.m. every morning; you immediately get out of bed, wash your face and brush your teeth, drink some water, put on your running clothes and tennis shoes which you laid out the night before, and head out for a half hour jog.
The essence of habits is this: once you start performing a series of actions on a consistent basis, you stop thinking about them. Basically, you're able to go through these actions on autopilot, without conscious thought or attention.
It's virtually impossible to change your habits through willpower. If you've tried changing a habit in the past by trying to force yourself to do it, you probably know this all too well. Suppose that you're trying to give up junk food by telling yourself that you won't stop by the vending machine during your morning break for your usual chocolate bar. What are you thinking about? You're probably thinking about the chocolate bar: graham cracker, covered in caramel, with a layer of nuts, topped off with gooey, delicious chocolate. That is, you're using your imagination to think about what you don't want.
Instead of walking around with a picture of what you don't want in your head-in this case, the chocolate bar-, you need to create a clear mental picture of something that you do want. For example, if you want to stop eating chocolate bars so that you can fit into the beautiful evening dress you bought for your upcoming high school reunion, create a mental picture of yourself looking slim and fabulous in the dress and use that as the image you focus on.
The process above applies to any habit you're trying to change. If your doctor warns you that you need to stop smoking or you'll seriously endanger your health, stop focusing on the image of yourself laid out on the sofa unwinding with a cigarette in one hand and your favorite drink in the other. Instead, visualize yourself playing out in the yard with your children feeling full of energy and in perfect health. The Silva Life System can help you change your habits by teaching you how to use your imagination more effectively at a level of mind called the alpha level. The alpha level is the brain frequency associated with meditation and with light sleep. Jose Silva, the founder of the Silva Method, discovered a way for people to slow their brain waves down to the alpha level while remaining awake. The Silva Life System teaches several techniques you can apply while at the alpha level that will help you improve your life, including self-hypnosis, positive affirmations, and creative visualization. Give the Silva Life System a try and transform your life by creating new habits.

Below are five habits that most people would like to add to their lives. The Silva Life System can help you adopt any of these positive habits.
1. Become an Early RiserIf you're in the habit of waking up late, you probably start rushing from the moment you wake up: you take a quick shower, throw on whatever clothes you can get your hands on, and grab a doughnut and coffee in a thermos as you run out the door. When you start your day in a rush it's very likely you'll be in a rush throughout the whole day. Imagine instead waking up early and having the luxury to exercise first thing in the morning, take a few minutes to journal or to meditate, review your goals, and then sitting down to a leisurely breakfast as you read the morning paper.
2. Exercise for at least 40 minutes, 5 days a week
There are countless benefits to regular physical activity. Most people exercise because it helps them manage their weight, which is beneficial for both their health and self-esteem. The list of medical conditions that can be staved off by exercising increases every day. Exercise can even help your moods: it releases stress and stimulates various brain chemicals that can help reduce feelings of depression and anxiety. In addition, exercise promotes better sleep.
3. Plan your schedule the night before
You'll be much more productive if you've planned your day in advance, instead of simply improvising what to do throughout your day. If you have a vision of what you want to accomplish in each area of your life, you've broken down each vision into major milestones, and have further broken down each milestone into smaller goals, you can make sure that your daily schedule is filled with activities that will steadily move you toward achieving your life vision in each area of your life. If, instead, you play it by ear each day, you're probably not moving toward anything of significance and will accomplish a lot less in your lifetime than you could achieve by planning what to do with your time.
4. Improve your diet
Decide to eat more whole grains, such as whole-wheat pasta, whole grain bread, wheat germ, and so on. Eat fish at least twice a week. Cut out or reduce your ingestion of meat. Have at least five servings of vegetables and three servings of fruit each day. Eat healthful snacks such as mixed nuts, peanut butter on a slice of apple, yogurt, and so on. Even small changes in your diet can have an impact on your weight and on your health.
5. Read for at least 30 minutes a day
Reduce your television time by 30 minutes each day and use that time to read instead. Reading will broaden your horizons, teach you things you didn't know, and entertain you. In addition, it will help to give you ideas you can apply in other areas of your life and will help you keep your brain active.
If you've tried to adopt any of the habits above and failed, the Silva Life System can help you create these habits by teaching you how to create a mental picture of the benefits you hope to achieve by adopting these habits, and how to focus on this mental picture while at the alpha level. By using self-hypnosis, affirmations, and creative visualization while at the alpha level, you can add these positive habits to your life once and for all.

"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit."
Ten Stepping Stones to Develop New Habits
The quote in the talk bubble above is by the famous Greek philosopher Aristotle. The actions we carry out repeatedly form our habits, and then our habits create our lives. If you put in the effort to create good habits, such as exercising, eating well, creating a system to keep your home and office organized, setting goals, and so on, these habits will help you live your optimal life. On the other hand, if you have negative habits such as smoking, watching too much television, oversleeping, procrastinating, and so on, these bad habits will act as a powerful deterrent to accomplishing your goals. In order to create a positive habit, or get rid of a negative one, follow the ten steps laid out below:1. Focus on changing one habit at a time. By putting all of your focus into trying to create one positive habit, or trying to break one bad habit, your chances of succeeding are much higher than if you scatter your energy trying to change many habits at the same time. It may seem to be more efficient to tackle several habits at once, but by doing this you'll become overwhelmed and will probably fail to create any lasting results.
2. Know why you're doing it. It will be much easier for you to adopt a habit if you're very clear on why you want to add that particular habit to your life. What benefits will you derive if you adopt this new habit? Write it down. After truly thinking about why you want to adopt a certain habit, you might decide that it's not really something you're interested in after all. On the other hand, a list of benefits is a strong motivator that will help you to achieve those habits that you do decide to take on.
3. Conduct a 30-day trial: Although most people would agree that it takes 21 days to ingrain a new habit, Steve Pavlina-a well-known personal development writer--suggests that you conduct a 30-day trial. He argues that it's easier to maintain something that you've done for a period of 30 days, that the 30 days of success will give you the confidence to continue, and that in 30 days you can gather enough feedback to decide what's working and what's not. Also, it's easier to convince yourself to do something for 30 days, as opposed to trying to talk yourself into doing something for the rest of your life.
4. Make it small and simple. If exercising for an hour each day is too much of a daunting task, start out by exercising 20 minutes a day. You can always increase the amount as you go along. On the other hand, if the task seems insurmountable from the get-go you'll never get started. For example, you can't leap from a life of careless spending to a life of frugality. Start off by taking small steps.
5. If you're trying to break a bad habit, you have to replace it with something else. The bad habit is serving some purpose in your life. By taking it away you're creating a void which needs to be filled by something else or the bad habit will simply find its way back into the void. If you smoke to relieve stress, you need to find a more productive way to relax, such as getting a massage or taking up yoga.
6. Set up your environment to help you. If you're trying to stop eating junk food, don't have junk food in the house. If you want to stop watching television, put the television in the closet. If you want to exercise first thing in the morning, lay out your running clothes and tennis shoes the night before so they're the first thing you see when you wake up in the morning.
7. Chart your progress. Print out a calendar with 30 days on it and every day when you keep to your new habit mark it on the calendar. Follow comedian Jerry Seinfeld's advice: for each day he does his task of writing, he puts a big red X over that day, which-after a few days--creates a chain. He adds that you have to make sure not to break the chain.
8. Do it with a buddy or join an online group. It's good to share your progress, or lack thereof, with people who are going through the same thing you are or have already gone through it. The benefit of getting a buddy to adopt a habit along with you, or to join an online group where everyone is trying to create the same habit, is twofold: it creates accountability and it gives you a support group.
9. Make it visual. Go back to your list of why you want to create a new habit. Do you want to lose weight so that you look great in a swim suit? Find pictures of people with the body you want, cut them out, and place them where you can see them. For any habit you're trying to create, find images that represent the benefits that you associate with adopting that new habit and create a vision board for yourself with those images. Look at them often.
10. Visualize yourself creating your new habit. Creative visualization is using your imagination to create a clear mental picture of something you want to create in your life. Your imagination is very powerful, and it can be a great aid if you use it correctly. A very useful tool for applying creative visualization is the Silva Life System. The Silva Life System will teach you how to slow down your brain waves to the alpha level, the brain frequency associated with meditation. It has been shown that the use of affirmations and creative visualization is more effective at the alpha level.
If you choose a different habit to work on each month, in a twelve-month period your life will be completely different from what it is today. Follow the steps outlined above and begin creating new habits right away.

- Great Lens Marelisa and very comprehensive! I look forward to your next one. By the way, there is tons of empirical research by behavioral psychology supporting both the efficacy of guided imagery and progressive relaxation (meditation)as major health benefits. 5 Stars!
