It's a Monster job search so you must stand out by being a better Career Builder

Covering your eyes isn't going to make this easier but with a little Internet Savvy, some time and effort you can put yourself ahead of the competition in those long job lines.

It's the basics of career building and a personal brand from there. Creating a presence for yourself and spotlighting your expertise is a sure fire way to get noticed. This type of branding can do more than any resume alone!

You can do this!

Clean it Up and Get Your Portfolio Online!

Finding a job is Your New full time job!

1. Google search your name. Prospective employers will do this first.

Do this these ways...jane doe, janedoe, jane doe anywhere state, janedoe anywherestate

The content that you need to delete by either accessing those accounts that belong to you do so. If they belong to someone else, ask them to delete it because you are undertaking a career search. Do this first because it can take a few days to disappear from search crawlers.

If you are in Social Networking sites like Facebook, MySpace and the like then you need to do massive cleaning there too. Whatever an employer shouldn't see make it go away and think before posting next time because many Social Site comments show up in search results. (Psycho Theme plays in your head!)

Have you told anyone on Wednesday to "Have a Happy Hump Day" latey? Attatched to some horridly silly little animated image with that comment? Guess what? MR/MRS EMPLOYER can see that too!

2. Streamline and clean up your resume.

The Top 20% of your Resume is Prime Real Estate! Do not waste it on your address and a Objective. This is where you use KEYWORDS to discribe yourself and really show case what that Resume is going to hold for them to look at it.

Employers hate paragraphs so move to a BULLET style.
If you have more than one job in the same industry GROUP THEM and then list the names of the companies and dates at the bottom of the group.

3. Focus on Functionality not where you worked.

What are you capable of skills wise, especially in the area of computers, networking and Internet Applications.

4. Highlight your accomplishments and awards or Exceeding expectations.

Not everyone has won awards in the job but if you have brag! If you have exceeded expectations again brag! Don't be overtly Braggish just make sure it where they can see it and take note of it.

5. Create and online portfolio and put GOOGLE ME at the top of your resume.

You can do this in one weekend. The applications that exist online are user friendly and will go beyond the resume. It is also YOU creating content for them to find.

What is Your Brand and 25-30 Second Statement that makes you the perfect person for the Job?

memorize this and rehearse it so it flows with ease

Here is mine:

"CEO- Creating Empowering Opportunities for Expressive People to Embrace Success Globally with a POPstar like Expansion through FUN Social Media & Videos!" Remember I work in the very social spotlight so mine has to be off the charts.

If you are in Customer Service yours could be something more like this:

"Identifying customer needs based on attentive listening and probing skills to network a first call resolution for retention with a focus on deepening the relationship through company branding and products."

You have to look at the resume to figure this out.

What were you best at?
Which job did you like the most?
Why did you like it the most?
What made YOU so good at it?

Then ask the same of each job. Write down keywords that describe these feelings and information, From here you will start to see a powerful branding statement that can PROPEL you to the top of the resume pile and get you an interview.

Rehearse this over and over and over...

Get in front of the mirror and practice saying that Branding statement like your life is full of purpose because it is, you are out to get a job, keep a job and grow into a new career. Companies keep the people who are an asset and value. You don't downsize talent!

The Job Boards are a Monster

get savvy with how they work

If you are going to search the job boards like Career Builder, Monster and Hot Jobs then you need to see how many resumes you can post to each one.

Yes, post multiple resumes because you aren't putting all of your eggs in one basket.
Not in this economy. Make sure that each resume is Keyword rich at the top where that prime real estate is and pick as many JOB SEARCH INDUSTRIES as you can to refine that resume to.

Once you have that loaded to all the major job boards do yourself a favor. Use INDEED.COM...
this is a job aggregator service. It searches them for you. You type in the category or industry that you are looking for and up they pop for all the big job boards so you don't have to do so much hopping around the net. Yes, indeed.com is FREE.

Social Networking can "LEAD" you to a job

Open your eyes and see the Opportunities

Everyone is all abuzz about LinkedIn if you are there utilize your contacts. Make sure that all of your connections know that you are looking, what you are looking for and keeping their ears and eyes open.

Facebook- are you just socializing?
Join groups in Facebook that have popped up by the thousands. Go see if the industry that you are looking for has one. Then get in there! You will be able to network with others who aren't competition they are resources. One company might be hiring 20 people for the same position!

Look for local Recruiters, Staffing Agencies and the like in Facebook Search

Make friends with them and ask them if they have created a group or if they would like to that you would be happy to help them moderate. This shows that you have leadership and mentorship skills and companies like that kind of Out Going Verve!

Get out to a Networking event and Meet people

You have a brand now. You have memorized your Brand. You can do this. There is no shy when you are looking for a career. You have the power to go meet the right people and shine in public so do it.

Fear is nothing more than a negative thought YOU are feeding. Stop feeding it.

Create some business cards with your phone, email and brand.

If you have a color printer post a good thumbnail photo (smiling please) on there and run off about 50 of them for each event your attending.

Check the local radio shows:

If you are in Louisville, KY, (where I am) listen to The Francine Show on Fridays on (AM) 84WHAS!

Francine was just on CNN News because she devoted a section of her local talk show to EMPLOYERS WHO ARE HIRING and offer full time with Benefits to call in and tell about that job. Hundreds of people have gotten jobs from her show!

Call each local station and ask for the PROGRAM Director. This is the person who can tell you what shows are featuring employment news and job call ins from employers.

Please share with people in the job market :)

don't forget to comment, rate, favorite TY! <3

I had zero luck with any of the on-line job sites. I finally got a job through a "headhunter" I had been talking to since December, surprisingly enough. :)
You never know what will work for you so you have to do it all. Great lens!
