Special Toys for your Special Kid

Toys for thinkers and explorers

Yes! Bikes are great for kids exercise and getting them out of the house. Along with that you can include some other things that would help them learn. Like maybe a bicycle compass. They would learn to read one and allow them to monitor which direction they are going and maybe even help them to be more aware of their surroundings and direction.

The toys and things I got as a kid were things like Star Wars figures and He-Man and the occasional item my dad would give to me that was not really a toy, like an old compass or this bow and arrow with practice arrows that had blunt edges so I wouldn't hurt myself. I realize now that those are the things I remember the most because I learned something from them... coordination, aim, and just simple awareness. I probably would have enjoyed having more things like that to play with instead of all the cartoon figures, although I did like my remote control cars and my indoor car race track a whole lot, but I was also always fixing on them and learning how to fix my own toys. Was that not a lesson I learned from my toys.

What I'm trying to say is that 'real life toys are fun', so don't forget those when thinking about what to get your kids this year.

Compass Toys

Are we there yet?

Common inquisitive questions like these mean you have bright children and it should be encouraged instead of quieted. So let them ask away and give them things to occupy their brain a while or make them ask even more.

What do you think?

Kids are understimulated.

Loading

Yes, I agree.

I say No.

KarenTBTEN says:

I think they are often overstimulated, but it's not necessarily the best type of mental stimulation -- so I'm all for educational games and toys.

Mickie_G says:

I have 7 grandchildren--a few of them have too much stimulation. Some are spoiled by getting everything that they point at in WalMart!--those kids have figured out the "game".

National Geographic Gifts

Complete National Geographic- Every Issue Since 1888 (OLD VERSION)

Amazon Price: $16.95 (as of 05/29/2012)Buy Now

If ever there were something more educational than the Encyclopedia or the Internet it would be the complete set of the National Geographic in such an easy to use format. Kids love pictures and it would capture their attention all the way through college.

I remember when my mom first introduced me to an old set of Encyclopedias. I spend hours just thumbing through the pictures when I wasn't playing outside, that is. It had everything from pictures of animals to pictures of what other countries looked like. I didn't get my first computer until 1993, so of course I used them for book reports and research in school. The only chance I got to look at the national geographic was in school, which the teachers had us cutting out pages in them for projects. How could they? Well, it was back before we had internet and could just copy pages off the computer.

The Complete National Geographic includes every printed page--every article, photograph, advertisement--from 1888 through 2008
Kids can test their knowledge of subjects with a trivia game and reference hundreds of the magazine's classic maps

Wii - Educational Games

Video games have always been great for hand eye coordination, but the Wii has taken it to a new level and if you could see my parents playing it you would know that its even entertaining for a adults. They love the bowling which can be played by the whole family at once.

Wii, is a video game by the well known brand, Nintendo. At first popular with parents for its physical interactive ability, getting the kids off the sofa and up moving around and still have a blast. Now Wii has grown tremendously and now includes some very educational but still fun games that kids will love.

If you have children age 8 and up including adults, they will love the Wii. Its simple to play with little learning curve to master. My parents are seniors and they like the Wii just as much as the kids especially the games that the whole family can play together. The kids like it when they play with them too.
