Custom Wordpress theme vs Ready made wordpress theme

There seems to be no end to the amount of WordPress themes that are offered out there today. That usually would be great news, but most ready-made themes that are offered for free pretty much suck. This can be due to a variety of reasons, some being, lack of functionality, bad color schemes, not unique, and just bad design.

The other option in ready made wordpress themes are premium ones. These are usually offered for around a 100 bucks, higher quality, more functionality, but they also suffer from being not unique and not likely to help set you apart for branding or personality.

Should you get a custom wordpress theme designed?

That is a good question that depends on a lot of different factor besides your budget. The following points will help you decide if you need one.

1. Do you have a way to make money from your blog?

And will it be able to cover your expenses for a custom wordpress theme? This is a good time to sit down and think about the return of investment you will get from a custom wordpress theme that you cannot get from a ready made theme as well. Something important to factor in is that thew new custom wordpress theme will most likely increase your readership. It is hard to say by how much exactly, but some blogs claim to see their readership increase by double.

2. What are the intangible results you will get from the custom wordpress theme?

Intangible results would be along the lines of pride, excitement, respect, and feeling unique. There are many, you should think what is important to you.

3. Is there no ready made themes out there already that can meet your needs?

If all you need is a place to rant a bit, then it is more than likely that there is a theme out there that can do the job for you.

4. What are your goals for your custom wordpress theme?

Goals for your custom wordpress theme would be along the lines of establishing yourself as a key expert in your field, proving that you are serious about your blog, or making more money by maximizing your ad space without being distracting.

5. The last part is your budget, how much are you willing to invest?

A simple custom wordpress theme that is personalized to your needs can be pretty cheap. I have seen prices ranging from $300-500 for these low-end ones and for some people it will meet their needs perfectly. Of course, if you need more customization, more professional design, or just have it done by an expert then you can look at $1500-$5000 depending on your specific needs.

So you decided you want a custom wordpress theme?

Hi BlogDesignGuy, Nice Custom WordPress lens. There are a lot of themes out there today (around 200?). I agree with you that most of them have one or more screaming flaws. A custom design is a must for anyone who wishes to do well in the blog biz. Nice resource links. ~Music Resource~
