Bewitched - One of the greatest classics on TV today!

This classic TV show originally aired on Thursday, September 17, 1964 at 8pm EST and ran for 8 seasons after filming 254 episodes.  It was one of the longest running television shows of all time.

Bewitched was a romantic comedy series about a mortal man (Darrin Stevens) who falls in love with and marries a Witch (Samantha). The show was based on the mixed marriage of a nose-twitching witch, Samantha Stephens (played by Elizabeth Montgomery), and her mortal husband, Darrin (originally played by Dick York and later by Dick Sargent). The series shows how true love can endure the most vexing of situations, even between a witch and a human.

Samantha's mother Endora (played by Agnes Moorehead), disapproves of Darrin, as indeed do most of Samantha's family. Many of the episodes revolve around her, or another of Darrin's in-laws using some magic spell to attempt to undermine the union. Although Endora casts countless spells on Darrin, her goal seems to be to pressure Darrin into leaving Samantha out of exasperation at her constant intrusions, but Darrin's love for his wife overcomes every obstacle thrown at him.

Samantha's family is very against the marriage and he suffers major problems dealing with them. Darrin is turned into a mouse, a mule, a pig and falls prey to several other spells usually cast by his interfering mother-in-law who can't seem to remember his name.

After Darrin found out about Samantha's powers on their honeymoon, he agreed to stick by the marriage only if Samantha promised to never use her powers again. She did promise, but it didn't last long! She had to reverse the spells her family put on Darrin, didn't she? And would you clean house all day long if you had magical powers? The couple had a baby (Tabitha) halfway through the second season. Many episodes were spent wondering whether Tabitha would be Witch or Mortal! Eventually we found her to be a Witch and later she got a little brother who was Mortal.

Bewitched was featured concurrently along with the sixties classic TV shows The Flying Nun and That Girl on ABC.  At the time it was referred to as ABC's "triple threat" as all of these shows were tremendously popular and remain so today.

It is currently available on DVD and occasionally seen in reruns on some networks.
