Astrology beyond the Sun Sign
I have heard alot of people say they are not like their sun sign. There is a reason for that. We are not just our sun sign. There is much more that makes one up then just their astological sun sign. I have looked into astrology beyond just the sun sign in my attempt to understand this very issue. I am not an astrologer just a person interested in astrology.
I believe that there is truth to what signs the planets are in at your birth influencing your character and personality. In many cases I have noticed you can tell more about people by what signs their other planets are in more than just by their sun sign.
In this lens I will share some of the different influences I have learned about astology such as houses planets are in, aspects in your chart such as sun trine jupiter and what that means (I won't go into this too much because there are many different aspects), and influences such as when a planet is retrograde such as my Jupiter in my birth chart.
The biggest influencers
Besides your sun sign the sign your moon and rising sign are in are important from what I have read. Those three together, the sun, moon and ascendant have the strongest influence on who you are. For instance mine is Sun in pisces, moon in capricorn and rising or ascendant in leo. So, I will not appear as sensitive as other pisces. I still am but I will also bring in personality traits of leos and capricorns.
The next thing you will want to know is the houses they are in. If you know your time and place of birth you can find out your
chart at the link I listed below. That link below will also tell you what each of your charts placements mean. Make sure you click on calculate after entering your birthdate, time and place.
In my case a capricorn moon can mean a less emotional moon then say someone with their moon in scorpio who will feel deeply or a pisces moon who will be quite sensitive. This does not mean I am not sensitive. You have to look at the whole chart to see if there other influences making a person a certain way. I actually am sensitive, but not at all times. Another influence of the capricorn moon can be that someone with this placement can be uncomfortable around emotions or emotional situations. A Capricorn moon can also add a serious tone to a personality and the feel of an old soul
Some Famous people with Moon in Capricorn: Benjamin Bratt (Moon, Mercury, Venus, and Mars in Capricorn), Cher, Matt Damon, Johnny Depp, Adolf Hitler, James Earl Jones (Sun, Moon, and Mercury in Capricorn), David Letterman, Ozzy Osbourne (Moon and Mars in Capricorn), Sarah Jessica Parker, Brad Pitt (Moon, Mercury, Venus, and Mars in Capricorn).

Love, sex and attraction

Want to know how someone loves?
Want to know who attracts them?
Want to know their sexual nature?
The answers are in what signs a person's moon, Venus and Mars are in. It is different for a woman and a man.
For a woman:
Her venus tells how she loves.
Her Mars tells what kind of man she will want.
Her moon tells what type she will be attracted to.
I have noticed for me they have to have a combination of my moon and my mars.
For example my moon is in capricorn as I said earlier. My Mars is in Aries.
So I am usually attracted to a man with alot of earth and fire qualities in their chart.
This can manifest different ways.
I have been with an Aries with a mars Capricorn and a taurus Venus.
I have been with a Cancer with a Venus in leo, moon in capricorn and mars in Virgo
I have been with a Virgo with a Venus in Scorpio.
I have been an Capricorn with an Aries moon
I have also been with a sagitarian with a capricorn moon and a Venus in Scorpio
The best choice for me is a man with a venus in scorpio because my Venus is in the 8th house which is the same as Venus in Scorpio. We would be alot alike and understand each other.
So, it does not mean you will be with exactly what your moon or mars are, just a combination that is similar.
For males
For men it works a little differently. They are attracted to the sign their Venus is in or women with those qualities and what their moon is in. Their Mars is what makes the feel masculine or like a man but not so much about their attraction to a woman.
Another influence to consider is what houses these planets are in. For instance my Venus is in Pisces but it is in the 8th house. Having a venus in the 8th house is like having a Venus in Scorpio, yet I still have the energy of a Venus in Pisces combined with that. Are you starting to see why we are all so different . I have not even mentioned retrograde planets or aspects within your chart which i am still trying to understand that one in more depth myself. My Jupiter in Scorpio is why I figure I like to know more about something rather than learning it at the surface level.
Venus and Mars tell you about how someone will be sexually

Venus in the houses

Starting out learning about astrology I had no idea what these meant or that it was important but have since learned that what house your Venus is in plays an almost more important part than what sign your Venus is in. My Venus is in Pisces in the 8th house. Venus in Pisces is good and bad from what I have read on it. We love deeply but may get disappointed in love. We are capable of unconditional love and sacrificing for others. We are kind. Venus in the 8th house which brings in Scorpio in nature as the 8th house represents Scorpio.
So someone with a Venus in Pisces in the 1st house will be different than me.
1st house in Venus
When your first house is in Venus you will be very attractive. If you are not something about you still is. You have a magnetism about you that draws people to you and a personality that is pleasing in nature, charming and you are well liked, popular and tend to stand out. Venus in the 1st house is Aries energy. It can lend itself to arrogance. These people will tend to wear their hearts on their sleeves. They have an ability to get what they want from people.
You will notice some of the popular stars have Venus in their first house
Angelina Jolie, George Clooney, Gandhi, George W. Bush, Cameron Diaz, Ben Affleck, Jude Law
2nd house in Venus
If you have Venus in your 2nd house you have an eye for beautiful and expensive things. The 2nd house represents Taurus. Taurus loves beautiful things and often money as well. They will be loyal in relationships. You will be attracted to
things of quality. You will have a sensual nature about you as Taurus does, or an earthiness that is noticed.
Famous people with Venus in their 2nd house
Leonardo Dicaprio, Brad Pitt, Elvis Presley, Paris Hilton, Scarlett Johansson, Cary Grant and Nicholas Cage
Venus in the 3rd house
If you have Venus in the third house which is ruled by Gemini you will be verbally expressive much like Gemini. More than likely you will have a way with words and an ability to win people over to your side with your words. You might not always say what you mean. You will prefer diplomacy to arguments. You prefer frequent changes to help you to feel stimulated.
Famous People with Venus in the 3rd house
Julia Roberts, Picasso, Bono (from U2), Freddie Mercury (Queen), Pierce Brosnan, Robert De Niro, Frank Sinatra, and
Jennifer Love Hewitt just to name a few.
Venus in the 4th house
The 4th house is ruled by Cancer so you will see Cancer qualities in someone with this Venus placement. They will love home and family. They will be sentimental. These people may become dependent on their partner or smothering..The person will be sympathetic and nurturing which I am sure is nice for those around such a person. Don't we all like to be nurtured? I know I do. These people can be attracted luxury as well as some of the other houses.
Some of the famous 4th house Venuses
Brittany Spears, Pamela Anderson, Russell Crowe, Katie Holmes, Bob Marley and Howard Hughes
Venus in 8th house
Intensity is what you seek in your love relationships, so that casual encounters are not necessarily your game. You are easily bored with mechanical interactions between partners, and might prefer drama in your relationships to anything mundane or superficial. However, you also fear being vulnerable in love, and, in youth, you may control your emotions in love. Fears of being betrayed may be at the heart of your somewhat jealous and possessive nature in love. When you give yourself over to love, you love wholeheartedly and expect all-consuming, total devotion and attention in return. You find passion a healing force in your life. Your charm runs deep--just below the surface. You are attracted to all that is taboo, hidden, forbidden, and find beauty in the broken, disenchanted, obsessed, and passionate. In some cases, people with this position might make a business out of love, romance, and eroticism. There is an intensity about you that others pick up readily. Either they run or they are completely intrigued!
This Venus is like having a Venus in Scorpio as you can see.
Astrology weekly has this version of the 8th house venus:
With Venus in the Eighth House the areas of life where you are most likely to express your social, romantic and artistic qualities are through harmonious sexual relationships, friendships and business interests. You attract the opposite sex like bees to honey, and you favour a partner who is intelligent, with a somewhat mysterious flair about them. An inheritance is likely, or you may gain financially through your partner. Your social circle may include many who are interested in the mysteries or those who are engaged in some form of occult work.

I am in this crowd also.

Books on astrology
One of my favorite and easiest books on astrology is The Only Astrology Book you will ever need. It will tell you quickly what it means that your moon is a certain sign or what your rising sign is. It all has a section where you look up any year to find out what yours or someone's planets are in.
Jupiter and Saturn
What they mean...

Jupiter
Jupiter tells how we express our generosity and tolerance. It can tell how are trusting others and it might say how we are improving our lives. The qualities of the sign are necessary in order to expand our personality and life experience
What planet is your Jupiter in?
Is it retrograde?
Retrograde is not bad. Oprah Winfrey, Bill Gates, Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes, Denzel Washington all have Jupiter retrograde in their chart. I also have a retrograde Jupiter.
A planet in retrograde from what I understand means that it causes a person to be more introspective. When it is in Jupiter alot of times you will find that person friendlier than if the planet was not retrograde especially if they have the aspect that goes with a retrograde planet bringing good luck of Sun trine Jupiter. Having a retrograde Jupiter does not guarantee that lucky aspect in your chart. Oprah has it in hers, so does Denzel Washington. I have it as well. It seems to always help you to find the right people at the right time, you will always seem to be okay, always find the help you need. That is what I have noticed of that aspect.

; Saturn
Saturn has to do with the more difficult lessons in our lives. Look to the sign and house it is in to tell you your most difficult lesson. Saturn is known to be the great teacher. There are two times in our lives when we have a Saturn return which means that Saturn which is in a sign for about 3 years returns to what it was when you were born. It does that at the approximate ages of 28-30 and 58-60 or about every 28 years. When it returns you will be dealing with your Saturn's lessons more than any other time in your life. Many people might notice they had difficulties at those times of their lives. I know I did.
North Node
This is one I find has what seems is the most significance. It tells what lessons you need to learn in this life and what tendencies you may have and need to leave behind, It is a past life influence that shows up on everyones astrological chart.
My north node is in Pisces. Your south node is usually what you are leaving behind but what will tend to be like until you begin to master the lessons of your north node
North Node in Pisces
To give you an example of the north node I will talk about mine. Apparently if you have a pisces north node you are here to learn compassion, get away from rules and lists or Virgo ways of thinking. You must learn to be less critical and more compassionate. I have noticed in my life these lessons quite often. I feel quite compassionate now, but I did not always. I think when my stepfather and father died it changed me. I suddenly understood empathy more than ever before. I felt broken at the time but I learned many lessons of compassion through their deaths and how they affected me.
Another lesson with Pisces north node is learning to connect with people. Life will usually bring relationships that you will feel a closeness with instead of old pattern of not exactly being emotionally involved one with the Pisces North node is mean to get emotionally involved. I have felt this in my life many times. Another lesson with relationships that one with this north node may encounter is bad relationships that they must learn to leave and practice the art of tai chi which is to simply get out of the way of those who are not good for you. I have gone through this many times with people in my life. It is not as easy as it sounds for me. I don't just leave people always and have stayed through some rough treatment.
Famous people with North Node in Pisces
Jennifer Lopez, Catherine Zeta Jones, Mariah Carey, Uma Thurman, Gwen Stefani, Nostradamus, Matt Damon,
Naomi Campbell, Sting, Elizabeth Taylor, Edgar Cayce, River Phoenix, Gerard Butler, Matthew McCONAUGHEY, Robin Williams, Vanessa Hudgens, and Renee Zellweger

Sun conjunct Venus
aspects

This is an aspect that I happen to have. It is one of the good aspects to have in your chart. I have some bad ones to unfortunately such as moon square mars.
So, what is Sun conjunct Venus?
It sounds like a nice one to have. It says that the person with this has a cheerful and optimistic spirit about them. It says they will also enjoy social company and the pleasures of life. Who doesn't love pleasures? They are my favorite thing!
Love and social relationships get highlighted when you have this aspect. I can say that is true for me. Just look at my poetry on one of my poetry lenses here at squidoo.
according to astrology weekly" it says this and more about this aspect:
You will attract others to your potent magnetic personality, and you are likely to experience a variety of relationships as a consequence of your romantic attitudes. You open easily to demonstrations of love and affection, and your heart can quickly melt. As a lover of life, a certain intensity will be present, as will the tides of love's joys and pains, but never attempt to turn off your developed love nature, or you may find that life rapidly loses its lustre and becomes grey, mundane and lifeless. Part of your role is to spread life-appreciation, enlivening others so that they too can become sincere lovers of life, and isn't that a task well worth pursuing?
Venus is a peace-making, harmony-loving planet, and those with Sun conjunct Venus do their best to seek peace and harmony. If you want things to go smoothly, call upon a Sun conjunct Venus person to restore balance.
I am not sure of too many people with this aspect. I know Oprah Winfrey has it. Jessica Alba has it also.

- This is great! I've had my chart done and have a stellium of planets in the Twelfth House! I'm a bit thrown though now that they say that there is a "thirteenth" sign which means that suddenly I'm not longer a Sag, yet, from reading about the new one I can relate to it also! LOL!

- I really love this lens. I've bookmarked so I can come back after I find my birth certificate and know my time of birth :). In many ways, I am the epitomy of "Pisces" (my sun sign). I suspect the moon might have been in Pisces too...
