Studying the Good Book with a Notebook
Notebooking can be applied to any subject of study, including the Bible! Enrich your Bible study times by recording what you learn and documenting it in notebooks.
The notebook is not the same as a personal prayer or devotional journal although a Bible notebook certainly could include personal responses to Scripture. Instead, a Bible notebook is something that could be shared with others, even with homeschool evaluators who are looking to document your yearly progress.
What Can You Put in a Bible Notebook?

- copywork
- Bible verses
- hymns and choruses
- narrations of Bible stories
- biographical reports of famous missionaries, preachers, or reformers
- personal responses to Scripture
- drawings of Bible stories
- coloring pages
- researched reports about Bible history or the daily life of Bible times
- character sketches of people in the Bible
- charts and lists -- for example, books of the Bible or the parables of the Bible, measures used in the Bible
- minibooks
- timelines of Biblical events
- maps
Here are some examples from my daughter's notebook.
Proverbs 31:10 copied and then rewritten in Sprite's own words.

That verse led us to research the value of rubies. Here are three pages of her ruby research.

Another way to notebook the Bible is to sketch cartoon style panels to retell the story. Here is the parable of the talents.

And this one is the raising of Dorcas.
Bible Timelines
for your notebook
I really like this book --Reproducible Maps, Charts, Time Lines and Illustrations-- for creating timelines. The drawings are simple yet realistic. Because it's reproducible, you can enlarge or shrink the images to suit whatever purpose you have in mind -- timelines, notebook pages, minibooks, coloring pages. This is an example of a notebooking page where we "recycled" a timeline of Joseph's life. The images come from this resource book.

- Thanks for the site on hymn notebooking. I am in the midst of creating a Holy Week Family Devotion/Activity set and wanted to teach the children (or at least expose them to) a hymn each day. The pages will provide both focus and variety.
