King James Version 1611
Buy Now
400 years ago the King James Version of the Bible came into existence. Originally printed in 1611! The 400 year Anniversary Edition contains 17th-century notes, references, and 66 books of the Bible, including the Apocrypha. The King James Version is the first version of Scripture authorized by the Protestant church. It was originally commissioned by England's King James I as a word-for-word translation. It follows the Hebrew or Greek as closely as possible. Therefore, a literal translation will be the closest English translation of the original text. There is a drawback, though. Some of the wording may sound awkward in today's English.
Initially, the King James Version New Testament was translated from the Textus Receptus. However, the majority of the book of Revelation seems to have been translated from the Latin Vulgate. The Masoretic Hebrew text was the bases of the KJV Old Testament. The Apocrypha in the King James Version was translated from the Greek Septuagint. This translation of the Bible is considered a word-for-word translation.

These Study Bible translations are more concerned with clarity than exact wording. They are much easier to read, but can give the impression that the Bible was written in the 20th century. For some people
For example in Psalm 119:105 "lamp" in KJV and NAS is translated "flashlight" in TLB. Obviously there were no flashlights a few thousand years ago! Drawback: Compromises on the original meaning of the text.
