Bible Study 101: Getting Started
The Bible is the book of life. Some refer to it as "Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth." Learn to study the Bible without struggling! There are many different approaches to studying the Bible. Reading the Bible is not like reading a novel. It is not meant to be read through once and that's it. The Bible is a life manual. Lots of people never get started because we don't think it's relevant to today's world, we believe we already "get the gist" of what's in it, or because there are lots of unfamiliar and difficult words that we won't understand. All of these are misconceptions. Bible study is not just an intellectual exercise. Although "head knowledge" of the Bible is important, heart knowledge is much more important. God works on our hearts as we take in His Word--and bit by bit --begin to apply it to our everyday lives!

Ask God for Guidance
Simple, yet powerful. God, the one who built the universes, can do all things. Most people like to use the phrase "I'll believe it when I see it." But, in fact we all breathe every single day of our lives and we never see it (AIR). Remember that when you read the Bible. Believe first, then you will be able to "see."
If you have never prayed before, this is as good a time as any to start. Just say, "Jesus, come into my life. I accept you as my savior. Forgive me of my sins. Amen." Now, you are free to ask God to reveal His Word (The Holy Bible) to you. Each time you pick up the Bible, ask God to help you comprehend what you are reading. This is not an intellectual exercise, but a spiritual one. What that means is even if you don't think you have learned anything, believe me (and millions of other people) your faith is being built and you have begun the process of "renewing your mind."
"Faith comes by hearing and hearing the Word of God." Romans 10:17
