As I say in my bio, I like bikes... a lot. From a design perspective, I am very interested in the many types of bicycles that meet a variety of different user needs ranging from racing to riding for transportation. I truly believe that the bicycle is man's greatest invention and I love to see innovative ideas that continue its evolution. In a nutshell, that is what this lens is all about. Read on, rate this lens, and let me know if you have any suggestions.

Books that I recommend
Bicycling Science, 3rd Edition
This book from MIT press is technical. It is written somewhat like a textbook and is very thorough. It may not be a good choice for light reading, but I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in the design of bikes.
Amazon Price: $16.47 (as of 07/05/2008)
Bicycles & Tricycles: A Classic Treatise on Their Design and Construction
This book was the best source of information on bIcycle design when it was written in 1890. Today, it is interesting to see how many innovations that we consider new had their roots in the 19th century. I love this book and would choose it over the rest of this list if I could only have one.

Bicycle Design
This book, by Mike Burrows of Giant fame, is much less technical than "Bicycling Science" or "Bicycles and Tricycles." If you want a basic explanation of the design of bikes with a definite slant toward carbon fiber as a frame material, this is a good choice.
Amazon Price: (as of 07/05/2008)
The Bicycle Wheel 3rd Edition
Another pretty technical book, but definitely the best choice for anyone interested in wheelbuilding.
Amazon Price: $24.99 (as of 07/05/2008)
Bicycle: The History
Many books have been wriiten on the history of the bicycle. I think this is the best.
Amazon Price: $32.00 (as of 07/05/2008)

Great lens - 5 stars! Have you ever submitted the bike drawings to a bike maker? The fat frames make them look different from anything on the road - cool! For Articles, News and Resources on Bicycles, check out Bicycles. From mountain bikes to racing bikes to parts! Posted June 17, 2008 |
