A review of one of the new online auction sites in the UK. Bidster allows the lowest bidder to win the item!
What On Earth Is "Bidster"?
Until last week, I knew absolutely nothing about Bidster, one of the latest online auction sites in the UK.
As someone with more than just a passing interest in shopping, I was extremely curious when I received a email telling me how a brand new Marc Jacobs bag had been bought for 25p and an iPod Touch phone for just £1.25! I just had to know more....
It turned out that both items had been bought from Bidster, which only launched in the UK on the 12th May and if the prices are anything to go by, I think it will take the UK by storm. Bidster is very different from a traditional auction in that it sells high end, premium products to the lowest unique bidder.

How It Works
In order to participate, you have to place a bid. You can do this after the start of the auction. You simply click on the item you are interested in and bid via your Bidster bidding account or via SMS using your mobile phone if this is more convenient.
Bidster monitors all the bids automatically and is able to immediately identify the lowest unique bid. The challenging, skilful part for the bidder is to
place a unique bid which is still very low. Bidster displays the ranges in which bids have already been placed, giving clues as to where to place your bid.
Items are continuously listed with closing dates clearly stated alongside each item. If there are no unique bids, the computer will look for the lowest bid with just 2 bidders and the first person to have placed the bid will win. (If more there happen to be no bids with just 2 bidders, the computer will look for the lowest number of people to have bid on one amount, find the lowest bid with that number of people and declare the winner to be the first to place the bid). The systems employed ensure that there is always a winner providing at least one bid has been placed.

How Do I Know If I've Won?
If your bid is the lowest unique bid at the end of the auction, an invoice will be sent to the email address registered when you joined. The invoice will consist of the amount of the winning bid plus shipping. Once you have paid, the item is shipped. It's as simple as that!
