Big Bird: Yellow, But Not Chicken

Big Bird is a six-year-old child in an eight-foot, two-inch-tall body. Children relate to him because he is a lot like them: full of the excitement of discovery, sometimes makes mistakes, and devastated when things do not go his way. But Big Bird always tries again. He believes with all his heart that there's no such thing as a stupid question.

Indeed, his persistence in finding solutions gives Sesame Street its sense of wonder and is an important encouragement for kids. He not only likes figuring things out for himself, he loves helping others out - especially best friend Mr. Snuffleupagus. Give Big Bird his favorite treat, a birdseed milkshake and you just might hear him break into his favorite song, "ABC-DEF-GHI." And as he'll tell you himself, "I'm too tall to be short."
