Ladies, summer is suddenly upon us and you are probably contemplating getting a new 2008 swim suit. If so, that usually means a trip to the mall to do your swimsuit shopping...right? If you're like most women, the swim wear shopping experience can be excruciatingly painful and traumatic.

Why...you ask? Have you conveniently forgotten your last swimsuit purchase at the mall? Let's face it, a majority of us either have love handles, pockets of cellulite, excess weight, unsightly bulges, pasty skin, body type issues, etc. etc. It's just part of the human experience (and a very cruel joke on us women).

So in an effort to minimize the shock for you, I'd like to offer some helpful tips for your swimsuit shopping excursion:

1. Firstly, shop only in the morning, before you've eaten. You don't want that breakfast or lunch bulge showing up in the dressing room mirror, God forbid...there's enough bulges without a meal showing.

2. Get your hair done before you go swimsuit shopping. If you need to color it to cover your gray, most definitely do that too. Seeing your body in a swimsuit in fluorescent lighting will be depressing enough...why compound it with bad hair too?!

3. Don't overdo the face makeup, especially eyeliner and foundation. Fluorescent lighting will make you look like a hooker caught leaving her customer - sunlight can be brutal the morning after.

4. Apply some self tanning lotion the night before. Darker skin will make you look thinner than you are and possibly even cover up your cellulite.

5. Buy the best wrinkle face cream you can find and lather your face with it for several days and nights in advance. Seeing the wrinkles on your thighs will be bad enough. Seeing all the new wrinkles on your face in that light could send you over the edge.

6. Do not go out for happy hour the night before your swimsuit shopping excursion. Your puffy face and bloated body from overindulgence in those wonderful salted margaritas will make you look like an obese toad with a thyroid problem.

I hate to be so brutally honest ladies, but this scenario is not uncommon for the average woman and I speak from experience, being the average woman that I am.

Now if you'd like to avoid this horribly depressing shopping experience and all the painstaking preparation leading up to it, I'd like to recommend shopping for your swimsuit online. Not only will you save yourself from some permanent emotional damage, but you'll save a ton of gas driving there....AND, most importantly you'll save a lot of money with online coupons for your new 2008 swimsuit(s) that your mall retailers do not honor.

There's a cliché that plus-sized women aren't active women, but that's just another annoying bit of ignorance.
