For those of you familiar with the Big Green Egg, no explanation is necessary. For those of you who don't know what the heck a Big Green Egg is - well it's just the worlds best smoker/grill/barbecue! Made out of ceramics, colored green, and shaped like a - you guessed it - Big Green Egg, it uses lump charcoal instead of conventional briquettes, can cook at low temperatures or sear at high ones, and bakes like an oven.     Thank you for the introduction to The Big Green Egg. I had never heard of it till now. I also never thought of baking a pie in a barbecue. Sounds like it's very versatile and Heaven knows I despise my current barbecue. Worth looking into.

    Glad you asked Ruth! The Big Green Egg is a really cool ceramic "Kamado oven" that is used as barbecue, grill or smoker. It is green, shaped like an egg (hence the name) and comes in a variety of sizes from a cute little mini egg to the XL which is 205lbs and can cook two turkeys! It uses lump charcoal (no fillers or chemical additives) rather than conventional briquettes and can smoke meets at low temps (200 to 250 degrees) or sear steaks at high temps (750 degrees or more). And the Big Green Egg website claims it bakes pizza's and breads better than a brick oven. Those of us that own one tend to be rather fanatical about them :-)
