Berkey Water Filters utilize Black Berkey Black Berkey purification elements which are considered more powerful than any other gravity filter element currently available. In fact, testing of the Black Berkey revealed that the these purification elements filtered more 10,000 times the concentration of pathogens per liter than is required by standard test protocol at 100%.

The base Big Berkey model comes with two Black Berkey purification elements and the system will purify up to 3 1/2 Gallons (13.3 liters) per hour. However, this system can be expanded to use four purification elements (upper chamber) and is capable of purifying up to 7 Gallons (26.5 liters) per hour.
