big black dogs

Sad news. Pitch has heartworms. We took him to the vet and we had to pay a fortune to get him treated. The treatment is really gross and my daughter and I were very sad that we had to go through this. Please be vigilant with your heart worm meds. The process takes two months and involves a lot of not fun for the dog.

Wow. What a great Thanksgiving. Took the dogs to the farm (our family has 300 acres in madison). We had a great time. The black lab was a little unruly and chased the chickens. Two of them did not make it. I had to apologize to my mother. She was a sport and said the dog was bred to fetch the birds, but he didn't know that he killed them. He did not try to eat them, simply brought them back. She is right, he was bred to do that. Working dogs need to be treated with an understanding of why they were bred. I was sitting for a friend who had a small poodle. I had always thought of these dogs as lap dogs. When I let it out, it got into my chicken cage and killed all the biddies. It was then that I learned that poodles also were bred to hunt. Beward of the little white lapdogs that look so cute! They really are every bit the hunter/retriever that the labs are!

Anyway, the turkey was not good, but the ham and yams and all the fixins were great. My sister in law cooked the best greens and we had a deliciously colorful salad with cranberries, pumpkin seeds and palm hearts. Stuffed to the gill.
