The Biggest Gingerbread House Ever?

Is this gingerbread house from a hotel in Taiwan the biggest gingerbread house you have seen?  Hotels are starting to make some very large gingerbread houses so maybe you know of a bigger one?  If so, then please let me know in the guestbook so that I can feature it here.

Actually the biggest gingerbread house ever was 67' tall according to the Guiness Book of Records. (Yes, there is a photo there.) It's almost too big!

About This Gingerbread Castle

Gingerbread House - Do Not TouchThe hotel creates this gingerbread house - in fact what can only be described as a gingerbread castle - in their lobby every year. Like the Ritz Cartlton gingerbread house I mention below, it's not entirely edible and has a framework, but the cladding is gingerbread. You can get a sense of the scale from the large photo showing it ribboned off and from this A4 size notice deterring people from touching the house.

Make Your Own Gingerbread House

If these gingerbread houses have inspired you to make your own gingerbread house, here's how to go about it. Don't worry, they don't need to be as big as the onefeatured in this lens. It also can be easy - just buy a kit - or cheap if you make the gingerbread yourself. It's something which can be fun to do with children. Recipe for a Giant Gingerbread House

Ritz-Carlton Gingerbread House

So what does is take to make a big hotel gingerbread house? Here is the recipe for a gingerbread house at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Charlotte, NC. The house is to be 10' high and unvelied in November 27, 2009. So far I haven't found a photo - but I'll keep looking. There is a video though. This isn't an entirely edible gingerbread house - it has a wooden frame inside.

· 350 pounds of organic white, brown and confectioner's sugar
· 70 pounds of organic egg whites
· 300 pounds of organic bread flour
· 100 organic eggs
· 24 pounds of molasses
· Four pounds of salt
· Four pounds of baking soda
· 120 pounds of shortening
· 24 ounces of cinnamon
· Two gallons of organic milk
· Eight ounces each of nutmeg, allspice and cloves
· Nine ounces of ginger

Best Gingerbread House?

So if this was (one of?) the biggest gingerbread house, what is the best? There's no such thing as edible houses don't last for long so gingerbread houses from one year are hard to compare against gingerbread houses from another year, other than in photos. What is possible is to consider the best gingerbread house in any year - which is where the National Gingerbread House Competition comes in.
