Cycling / Buy a Bike

There are alot of different bikes on the market and depending what you want to use it for, will depend on what kind of style of bike you will have to buy.

Road Bikes are light aerodynamic and built for high speeds on smooth roads or pavement type surfaces. The best road bikes will have 14 gears or more look very like the bikes in the Tour De France.

Touring Bikes are very much like road bikes but normally are heavier and have a more relaxed geometry for more comfortable ride. They will probably have mud guards as well to stop mud and water splashing up your back and legs. They will probably have more robust tyres with thicker rubber and fatter tyres.

Mountain Bikes are for riding on rough terrain such as paths and tracks. They have strong components and frames, fat knobbley tires and a more upright seating position to keep most of the riders weight over the back wheel

Hybrid Bikes these bikes are like mountain bikes with a bit of road bike thrown in they normally have thinner and not as knobbley tires as a mountain bike but are also suitable for riding on paths and the road. This type of bike is good for general everyday use.

Time trial Bikes are road bikes specially designed and fitted for racing in timed trial events they are designed for maximum speed and not comfort, some have one wheel bigger than the other and others can have the spokes filled in to stop drag on the wheels.

All the bikes above come in various qualities and designs but the main thing is how much you are willing to pay as they are also in various prices.
