Biking Can Be A Fun Way to Change Your Life

Ranked #13,116 in Sports & Recreation, #315,692 overall

Exercise, Great Economic Travel and Fun

What could be better than a ride on a nice smooth road, on your bike? There are many ways to cycle today, are there are specialized bikes based on your terrain, your destination, and your exercise limits. You can buy a mountain bike, a dirt bike, a road bike, or a bike with a cargo carrier. There are bike games, that involve leaps, jumps, and the events are competitive and fun for young people. You can even bike on a bike that folds in half, to store in your office or cube when you get to work. But, before you visit the bike shop, and start looking at bikes for sale, be sure to understand how you will bike best. What your area is like, and where you will start out, and where you will often end up. And, how you will store your great new friend, because, it will not be an eye sore to you, but your new baby.

I believe today, more than ever, we all need to think about biking in three ways:

1. Transportation
2. Exercise
3. Fun!

There is no better time to own a new road bike, and one that will take you from point A to point B. You can improve on your mental state, your exercise is outside, and you are saving money in the long run. The cost of gas is getting crazy, and we all are more and more apart of a global economy, which means more and more people are looking to buy a car, or a motorbike to get around. If you want to improve your life, start by yourself, and adopt a new way to get around. There is no better way to improve your cardiovascular health, than by getting on a bike!

Transportation

To Work, school, and to shop!

Biking to WorkBiking can be a hobby, or it can be part of your life. Start out small, if you are new the sport. It can be very challenging when you enter a bike shop, and you are brand new to the entire biking world. Take some time to understand your local bike paths, roads, and the area you hope to bike in. You may decide that you are going to bike or commute to work. This is an admirable challenge! Especially if you live 5 miles or more from your work place. This challenge is a great one to work towards, but I would suggest you stick to under 2 miles or less at first. You do not want to injure yourself, or cause yourself any stress to your motivation. Often times, when an idea is new and fresh, it is easy to get over extended.

So, be sure to get a clean bill of health from your doctor, and then buy a simple 5 speed bike, with a nice big seat. Load it up with racks, bottle carriers, a light, and some reflective labels and tape. The tires should be road ready, and nice and medium in thickness. You do not want to have too much rubber to push, but allow your ride to be soft and smooth. Your bike shop will have great deals right now, and will be very helpful.

Safety first! A helmet, or skull-cap, is the most important part to your safety uniform. Elbow and knee covers will be another good idea, because you are going to crash eventually! Be prepared for the situation, and think about a good pair of sunglasses, or even goggles, as the more you ride, the more you are going to get wet.

Then, whenever you need to visit the bank, the grocery, the doctor near your home, or any other shopping, go biking! You are going to save your life in this manner. You will increase your stamina slowly, and with constant exercise. Everyone will marvel at your new mindset!

“You can save money in many ways by biking. Improve your Health, Save your Car, Cut your Insurance.”

Exercise is Great on a Bike

Outside is so much better!

Biking for ExerciseI hate to be in the shell of a gym, and working out to the same old routine and steps each day. It is so boring! Biking can really make your legs work out to the limits you need, and you can push yourself only when you need to. There is no reason to keep your exercise routine the same on a bike! It is great because with the weather, the road can be different each time you go out. You will earn where the hills are, and when to go tackle them, and when to just pedal around them in a new and fun direction.

You are going to find some dumbbells on your arms will help to keep your arms really strong, as they are going to get good exercise too, but you can add to it, buy adding some flexible weights when you want a little more challenge. You will never see a tubby biker!

The most strong bikers, are those that start out with small steps, and let the sport grow on them. The amount of gizmos and items you can buy, should be an indicator that bikers are passionate about their sport. The running and walkers often find biking after they have experienced injury or are looking to move faster. The possibility of injury on a bike increases without awareness, as you need to be always aware of any unexpected barriers or movement ahead, behind and along side of your bike.

So, take your morning breakfast early, and gradually bike towards health. Do not get discouraged by weather, as you can easily turn that rain shower into a nice cooling mist with a little muscle.

“Exercise until you feel slightly tired, and take a break. Do not over do it, and You will not Quit!”

Fun Biking Needs to be Part of Your Week

Not just for function

Seaside BikingIf you are going to bike, be sure to have some fun! Put aside some time to bike for fun, and make this a purpose in your life! You can tote your children behind you in a buggy, and attach a springer to your bike to run your dog with you, and bring your map! You never know where your adventure will end up. The new GPS systems for biking makes the map a new and wonderful tool.

The road ahead is where you need to find your focus and your new life. Being able to just pedal, and watch the road ahead, is a refreshing and wonderful motivator. You can really lose yourself, so be sure to stop when you are feeling winded, and take a break at a new coffee shop, and drink some water and tea. Start down the street slowly after your break, and stop to buy some flowers, a new gift for a birthday present, or say hello to some cows you meet along the way!

You can bring your binoculars, and bird watch along the way, and a digital camera will be a great way to integrate any of your other hobbies. You will be surprised by deer, and other wildlife if you are in a rural area, as your bike can be quiet for the motor fearful animals, and you may be surprised yourself by all that is out in your area outside of a car.

Take time to build up to long distance rides, and just go out, and turn back. See how far you can go, and it is not a race. Slow down, and breathe in your life, and enjoy!

“Biking can be the Most Fun you can Have during your Week!”

Great lens! I started riding again a year and a half ago, after not riding for more than 20 years. I had forgotten how much fun it can be -- you really see the world differently. Great fun and great exercise. I started a blog to help other beginners figure out what bikes, gear, etc. were good for them: http://www.CyclingForBeginners.com

I did own a bike until about a week ago when somebody broke into my front porch and stole it. I guess I should have been more careful and locked it as well but oh well, I'll get another one when I can as I used to bike around all the time!

The Art of Urban Cycling

A biking book that teaches some key life lessons

Are you aware of the many safety and road concerns of a bike ride in an urban setting? There are so many things that you must and have to think about if you don't want to lose a kneecap or sustain a collarbone injury. Riding with safety does not mean you can't have fun and get where you need to be, but it does mean you should be always and at every time present. The ride is necessary for most riders to become the best urban riders, either silently or with a wave of the hand.
