Ten Biking Trails That You Should Ride

What makes one list of biking trails better than another list of best biking trails? I suppose it all depends on the person doing the riding and what they want in a trail. Are you looking for a ride that will have your heart in your throat? Jagged rocks, small ledges, small paths or super smooth single track.

If you are still looking for the perfect trail and haven't found it yet, try one of these trails. You just may find a couple of new biking trails that come pretty close to being that perfect trail.

Downieville Downhill

Downieville, California

This trail plunges 4,200 feet in under 14 miles. The trail has forests, meadows with wild flowers and the edge of cliffs above a roaring river.

The Edge Loop

Fruita, Colorado

This is not an easy going trail, a 30 mile loop. There's hard climbing and steep descending and it's full of adventure.

Finger Lakes Trail

Letchworth State Park, New York

The trail is fast with lots of downed logs, rock and root snarled single track and constantly dips in and out of ravines. This trail has enough to keep expert riders alert.

Fisher Greek

Ketchum, Idaho

A loop ride of 18 miles with the most beautiful views as you pass beaver ponds and cabins. The view from the top, the snow capped Sawtooths and meadows, make up for the 1,500 foot elevation gain. Then you hit one of the best and twistiest single track you'll ever find.

McKenzie River Trail

Eugene, Oregon

This is not an incredibly challenging ride, no painful climbs or fire roads. It's a nice almost seamless flow of single track just a constant blur of mossy forest.

National Trail

Phoenix, Arizona

This trail is not for beginners. A long climb followed by a technical descent on rocky desert single track. There are a few spots on the trail that even experienced riders will dismount. You also share the trail with hikers and equestrian so you need to watch for foot traffic.

Plantation Trail

Davis, West Virginia

This is not a trail for the faint of heart. Someone described it as one really long rock garden. You will go through lots of dense thickets and a good share of creek crossings. The creek crossings can look like rivers after a storm.

Porcupine Rim

Moab, Utah

Beautiful desert views and a ride with down hills and technical sections that'll defy the experienced riders. This is the type of trail that you will enjoy so much you'll want to ride it again and again.

Tsali Left Loop

Nantahala National Forest, North Carolina

The Tsali is well known and famous for its smooth single track network. Tsali Left Loop is probably the most technical of these trails. The trail weaves up and down along Lake Fontana. Only for the occasional fallen tree the trail is all speed and smooth sailing. This is the kind of trail that will make you a lover of mountain biking.

Upper Oil Can

North Vancouver, BC

Upper Oil Can is located on Mount Fromme and is one of the best maintained and build trails in the area. It isn't the hardest trail, but it isn't without its challenges. It's full of rock steeps and wet ladder bridges. An expert rider will find the skinnies and ladder bridges challenging and with enough bail out trails for the intermediate riders. There are also trails for the less experienced rider.
