It's bad enough when someone is the victim of one death hoax. It's something that person's family, friends, and fans should never have to experience. After rumors wrongly claimed in February that actor-comedian Bill Cosby had died, the disgusting hoax is back again. In a replay of an Internet hoax that circulated last Feb. 6, Facebook and Twitter users are once again spreading (and debunking) rumors that 73-year-old comedian Bill Cosby is dead.

About 10 hours ago, an Internet hoax started that said: "Prominent black comedian Bill Cosby was killed this morning in a tragic car accident in South Central Los Angeles," reads the latest phony celebrity obituary to go viral online (see screenshot above). "The cause of the crash was blamed on the cell phone he was using to update his Twitter feed when driving in his car."

A firestorm of tweets today propelled "Bill Cosby died" to the top of Twitter's Trending Topics. Thankfully, the iconic star is just fine. Bill Cosby is the latest victim of an Internet-wide death hoax. Despite "Bill Cosby died" being the number one trending topic on Twitter this evening, the beloved comedian confirmed on his account that he is very much alive and well.

Just a short while ago, he was compelled to echo that sentiment via a Tweet that also doubled as a commercial for his new iPhone app: "Again, I'm rebuttaling rumors about my demise. But, I'm confirming I have an app - http://bit.ly/BillCosbyApp :)," tweeted the 73-year-old actor. He later wrote, "Emotional friends have called about this misinformation. To the people behind the foolishness, I'm not sure you see how upsetting this is."

This is the second fake death rumor for Cosby, after a false CNN report circulated in February. The last time this happened, Mr. Cosby "rebuttaled" the false reports on his personal blog, writing: "As you well know, a dead person cannot rebuttal. Therefore, I am rebuttaling to tell you that when I heard the news I immediately began rebuttaling and went into denial. My wife has just informed me that there is no such word as rebuttaling, she says the word is rebutting. But I don't care, because I'm alive!!"

Other celebrities who have notoriously been declared dead while still, in fact, alive and kicking are Keith Olbermann (a Wikipedia entry was to blame) and Jeff Goldblum (a New Zealand news station even reported on it, and Goldblum appeared on 'The Colbert Report' to deny the claims).
